Description:

REGULAR FULL-TIME

The District is hiring a Corporate Energy Specialist to be part of our Sustainability team. The successful candidate will
identify and implement low carbon energy initiatives in line with Squamish’s Municipal Energy and Emissions Plan (MEEP)
and Community Climate Action Plan (CCAP). The position will focus on municipal (corporate) actions related new
buildings, existing buildings and transportation. Part of the role will be identifying opportunities, applying for funding and
building support for projects. We are looking for an energetic team player who takes initiative, builds relationships and
can overcome obstacles to realize results.
This is a full-time position that is currently funded for approximately 26 months, with the possibility for renewal. The role
is developed in partnership with BC Hydro’s Commercial Energy Manager Program and is funded by BC Hydro and the
District of Squamish.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager of Sustainability and Climate Change, the Corporate Energy Specialist works closely with the
District’s Sustainability team to identify and implement low carbon energy initiatives in line with Squamish’s Municipal
Energy and Emissions Plan (MEEP) and Community Climate Action Plan (CCAP). The main focus of this role is on municipal
actions primarily related to new and existing building infrastructure and transportation, and includes applying for funding
to carry out these initiatives.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Expert knowledge related to building infrastructure, including energy efficiency and low-carbon energy. Expertise

related to renewable energy and embodied carbon would be an asset.

  • Knowledge of electric vehicles and EV charging infrastructure.
  • Knowledge in energy management and program implementation.
  • Results-oriented, energetic and persistent team player who takes initiative and solves problems to realize results.
  • Proven experience in project management.
  • Excellent organizational, communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. Ability to influence people.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with colleagues, partners and other interested parties.
  • Ability to work effectively independently as well as in a team environment.

REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
  • Have at least one of the following: Post secondary degree in business, planning, sustainability, clean energy or other
    relevant field; Registered Professional Engineer; Registered Engineering Technologist, Energy Management

certification; Certified Journeyman Electrician; Certified Technician in relevant discipline.

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a field related to energy and sustainability.
  • Experience in a Local Government setting is considered an asset.
  • Additional education, training or accreditation in a field related to energy or sustainability is considered an asset.

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

❖ Identifies, evaluates and implements opportunities to increase efficiencies, reduce emissions and pursue
renewable energy generation in Squamish’s corporate buildings.
❖ Identifies, evaluates and implements opportunities to reduce emissions in Squamish’s vehicle fleet.
❖ Oversees, facilitates and coordinates projects, programs and related grants and contracts with government, utility,
and other community partners.
❖ Develops and executes plans to raise corporate and community awareness of BC Hydro programs and incentives
for low carbon energy solutions in Squamish.
❖ Acts as a champion and project manager for key energy initiatives. Builds support and buy in for projects among
staff from other departments.
What we’re looking for: Our ideal candidate will have a post-secondary degree in environmental sciences, engineering,
planning, policy, or another relevant field, will possess additional education, training or accreditation in a field related to
energy or sustainability. In addition, this role requires five years’ experience years of experience working in a field
related to energy or sustainability, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
