Description:
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Vice President, Operations with a dashed-line relationship with the Manager, Projects, this position will be responsible for mine production support, mine planning, mine design, and project management activities in support of mine site goals and directives. The position will require frequent interaction with mine site management, engineering, and operations groups. Work will also require interfacing with corporate engineering, exploration, and finance departments. The successful candidate will be a responsible and self-directed professional who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where there is frequent change. Frequent travel to domestic and international mine sites will be required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- University degree in Mining, Geological, or Civil Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited university;
- Minimum 7 years of mining experience, including at least 3 years in a site-based role. Underground experience preferred;
- Experience in mine optimization, design, production planning, and site performance improvement;
- Experience working with Microsoft software (Word, Outlook, Excel, Project) and at least one mine design/planning system (Deswik, MineSite, Datamine, Surpac, Vulcan, etc.) Deswik experience is preferred;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Able to work collaboratively in a team environment but also available to work independently with minimum supervision; and,
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
Experience working with consultants and teams at remote mine sites;
- Experience working in challenging jurisdictions; and,
- Language skills:
- English: high level speaking and written proficiency
- French: desirable but not essential
JOB DEMANDS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This position is based out of our Vancouver head office with frequent domestic and some international travel required. Travel may be on short notice and for extended stays (more than 40% of the time annually).
Responsibilities:
- Work with mine employees to improve underground and open pit mine production performance;
- Support short, long, and medium-term mine production planning;
- Support underground stope optimization and development design, including performing mine design as needed;
- Support open-pit and underground mine design projects and other technical projects including site layout, underground ventilation, dewatering, and equipment studies;
- Support annual and Life of Mine budgeting and cost modeling;
- Support permitting employees and consultants as required, including for new projects;
- Regularly review and report on the status and outlook of mining operations;
- Ensure that open pit and underground mine designs and plans meet B2Gold and industry-standard safety parameters;
- Monitor and report production performance metrics and indicators;
- Maintain communication with sites regarding mining production, planning, and design activities, including mining and technical services personnel and other department managers;
- Travel to current and future operations and projects of B2Gold as required; and,
- Perform other duties as required in support of Company and mine site objectives.
