THE OPPORTUNITY
Altus Group is looking for a Cost Consultant specializing in Mechanical services to join our Development Advisory division at our Toronto office. The Consultant will assist senior staff in delivering high-quality cost consulting services, ensuring accurate and timely estimates for various construction sectors, as well as project management and monitoring.

Key Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Building Science, Construction, Quantity Surveying or in a related field
- 2-3 years of estimating/cost consulting experience
- Working towards PQS, MRICS and/or Cost Engineers designation
- Self-motivated with a high degree of integrity, honesty and ethics, and client service orientation
- Strong knowledge of RICS Project Monitoring guidelines, CIQS standard method of measurement, both elemental and trade, provincial lien acts, and CCDC standard contract conditions, LEED & Toronto Green Standards (TGS), Energy Management and Net Zero/ Low Carbon Strategies.
- Strong leadership skills, ability to present independently to clients, good negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent communication skills – interpersonal, written & presentation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and SharePoint, with strong knowledge of CostX or similar cost estimating software
Responsibilities:
- Calculate quantities and/or measurements of specific building elements based upon drawings and/or other design documentation for detailed and/or conceptual estimates
- Prepare cost estimate based on narratives, design brief and conceptual design drawings in both CIQS elemental and Uniformate estimate
- Review pricing for change orders to ensure accurate cost estimations
- Review and guide measurement of project statistics/functional areas.
- Ensure completion of project descriptions and assumptions.
- Complete design efficiency analysis, along with full trade and elemental take-off.
- Prepare front-end cost reports to support cost estimates. Complete estimates and reports for final sign-off by the Associate Director
- Prepare change order review analysis and lifecycle cost estimates.
- Reconcile estimates with tenders, owner budgets and contractor estimates
- Conduct research and price checking of items in the market (telephone and/or internet searching) to provide project and cost data cost information
