About the Role
RMIT Council is the governing body of the University and is responsible for the general direction and superintendence of the University. RMIT Council has established various Committees to assist with its oversight obligations under the RMIT Act and is seeking to appoint an external member to the Infrastructure and Information Technology Committee (IITC).

The primary responsibilities of IITC include:

  • Oversight of the major capital infrastructure and information technology projects/investments of significant complexity, risk, or strategic significance to the organisation.
  • Monitor significant projects already in progress to ensure the evidence value for money, efficiency, meet key milestone, and align with the University’s strategy.
  • Monitor the University’s operating and capital expenditure on infrastructure and information technology assets and projects.
  • Endorse and monitor performance of key strategic documents such as the Masterplan, Property Plan, Information and Technology Plan

About You

General Capability and Personal Attributes:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – the ability to work well in a group, listen well, be confident to communicate your point of view frankly and respectfully.
  • Demonstrated ability to interrogate and critically analyse a wide range of information.
  • Strong intellectual curiosity, good judgement and genuine interest or knowledge of the higher education sector or community organisations.
  • Integrity and high ethical standards; the ability to act in the best interest of the University as a whole.
  • It is preferable that appointees reside in Victoria

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Non-executive director experience with medium to large scale organisations (Required)
  • Experience with campus planning and development (Required)
  • Strategic planning and oversight experience (Valued)
  • Tertiary education experience (Valued)

Probity and conduct

All applicants will be required to undertake pre-appointment check, including:

  • National Police Records Check
  • Declaration of Private Interest
  • Australian Financial Security Authority (AGSA) National Personal Insolvency Index (NPII) check and
  • Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) Register of Persons Banned and Disqualified

If appointed, you will also be required to:

  • Agree to comply with the RMIT University Council Charter as well as RMIT University Policies and Code of Conduct.
  • Keep confidential all information provided to you in your role on the Committee
  • Undertake an induction program on your duties and responsibly as a Committee member and the operation of the university.
  • Devote sufficient time to prepare for Committee meetings.

Time Commitment

  • Committee members are typically appointed for a 3-year year term and may be eligible for reappointment.
  • IITC holds four meetings throughout the year; additional meetings may be held if required. Meetings typically run for 4-5 hours.
  • Preparation time for IITC meetings requires a minimum of a half-day’s reading time in advance of the meeting.
