Hunt Oil Company is a privately held oil and gas exploration and production company with oil and gas operations in the United States, South America, Africa and the Middle East.

Position Summary:

  • Work in support of existing legal team members on all aspects transactional oil and gas matters (domestic and international, with an initial emphasis on domestic matters)
  • Interface directly with various operational and transactional teams under the direction of existing legal team members
  • Provide day-to-day legal support to domestic production and development team, including drafting and negotiating oil and gas purchase agreements, gathering agreements, master service agreements, software and data license agreements, and other documents in support of oil and gas operations
  • Work closely with the land department to draft and negotiate oil and gas leases, joint operating agreements, lease exchange agreements, surface use agreements, easements and farmout agreements
  • Support the company’s domestic acquisition and divestiture efforts by drafting and negotiating confidentiality agreements, conducting due diligence on potential acquisition targets, and participating in the drafting and negotiation of asset purchase and sale agreements, contribution and exchange agreements, and membership interest purchase agreements

Required Skills:

  • Excellent legal writing skills including the ability to effectively reflect company terms and objectives in agreements
  • Ability to work in a team environment to achieve company objectives set by management.
  • Ability to think critically and solve complex problems
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work efficiently to prioritize workflow to effectively meet project deadlines
  • Ability to learn quickly and willingness to take on new and evolving projects across the company

Required Experience:

  • 2-5 years of experience in U.S. transactional or corporate practice at a law firm
  • Licensed to practice law
  • Strong academic track record
