SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provides counselling support to students living in Residence or other areas of the college as required;
  • Provides crisis intervention services including preliminary triage and direct liaison with local crisis support services;
  • Acts in a consultative and training role to faculty and staff to identify and address student issues;
  • Develops and facilitates workshops on related issues and makes referrals as required;
  • Participates as a collaborative and consultative member of the Student Success Division and faculty team to achieve College goals that contribute to student retention and success in the learning environment;
  • Builds and maintains community partnerships to address specific ongoing needs of students and works collaboratively with mental health agencies and other community, provincial and nationals organizations;
  • Works on special projects as assigned to advance the provision of Student Success at Lambton College.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Disability Studies, Social Work, Special Education, or a related discipline required
  • Must be a registered member qualified to practice the controlled act of psychotherapy in the Province of Ontario
  • Minimum 5 years’ recent and relevant experience
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience assisting students with disabilities in a post-secondary environment
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered; preference will be given to applicants meeting the education requirements
  • Demonstrated expertise assisting and accommodating students with a wide range of disabilities and accessibility needs including: students with learning disabilities; mental health issues; students who are deaf/hard of hearing, and students experiencing medical and mobility issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and strong interpersonal skills required
  • Commitment to working collaboratively to remove barriers and enhance the learning environment for students with disabilities in accordance with all legal and ethical requirements
  • Must have a strong commitment to providing quality professional services and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Experience and qualifications with accessibility counselling will be seen as an asset
