Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The ideal candidate profile for this position is someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced and changing environment; enjoys a challenge; possesses a strong customer service focus and a “can do” attitude; and, instinctively knows who his or her target audience is and how to effectively “speak” to that demographic.
Reporting to the Campus Director, the incumbent is responsible for assisting students with day to day, short term, resolution focused counselling (strictly soft counselling with intent to refer out). Other duties include supporting Career Services while helping students in finding part-time employment and graduates in obtaining gainful employment that this is applicable to their field of study within six months of graduation. He/she also participates in the planning, organization and execution of on campus and off campus events to build meaningful connections with students.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- A master’s degree in counselling psychology or clinical psychology.
- A minimum of three years of experience in providing counselling services to adults in a clinical setting.
- Registration or eligibility for registration with a relevant professional association, such as the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, or the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in applying evidence-based counselling approaches, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, solution-focused therapy, or motivational interviewing.
- Experience in working with diverse populations, including students from different cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities, and abilities.
- Experience in providing crisis intervention, risk assessment, and safety planning for clients with acute mental health issues.
- Experience in providing accessibility services and accommodations for clients with disabilities and learning difficulties.
- Experience in a Post Secondary education institute will be an asset.
Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group counseling to students with a range of mental health and personal issues, such as anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, substance use, identity, and relationship concerns.
- Conduct intake and psychosocial assessments, develop treatment plans, and monitor progress and outcomes of counselling interventions.
- Refer students to appropriate internal and external resources and collaborate with other service providers as needed.
- Provide crisis intervention and risk assessment for students in distress and follow up with appropriate referrals and support.
- Conduct workshops and wellness sessions for students.
- Support students with disabilities and learning difficulties by providing accessibility assessments, accommodations, and advocacy.
- Develop and facilitate psychoeducational workshops and outreach programs on topics related to mental health and wellness.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of counselling sessions and client contacts.
- Participate in regular clinical supervision, case consultation, and professional development activities.
- Manage the school’s relationship with Adler University as part of an external partnership agreement.
- Complete reports of referrals, and statistical reporting.
- Contribute to the development and evaluation of counselling policies, procedures, and programs.
- Perform other related duties, as assigned.
