About the Role
The Country Manager for Denmark will lead Mastercard’s operations, strategy, and performance in the market. Reporting to divisional leadership, this role serves as the face of Mastercard in Denmark, managing the Financial Institutions (FI) business and overseeing a cross-functional team to deliver country-specific growth and innovation.
You will be responsible for driving the country’s strategy, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks, and strengthening Mastercard’s brand and relationships across stakeholders, including customers, regulators, and the public. This pivotal role will focus on achieving ambitious financial targets while positioning Mastercard as a trusted partner and thought leader in the payments ecosystem. The role report directly to the Scandinavia, Finland and Baltics Cluster Lead.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic and Market Leadership
- Develop and execute the country strategy to drive revenue growth, market share, and product diversification.
- Head Financial Institutions in Denmark, managing performance against country KPIs and ensuring alignment with divisional and global priorities.
- Lead a country-specific cross-functional team forum to coordinate initiatives and foster collaboration across markets.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, proactively monitoring changes and engaging with relevant authorities.
Business Development and Relationship Building
- Build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including customers, authorities, and regulators at the C-suite level.
- Leverage Mastercard products and services to create new partnerships, drive innovative business solutions, and expand Mastercard’s ecosystem in Denmark.
- Identify and capitalize on new business opportunities, delivering customer-focused solutions that align with market needs.
Regulatory and Brand Advocacy
- Drive Mastercard strategic position in the Danish market, and in collaboration with Marketing and Communication shaping the brands overall image and perception to enhance the brand preference.
- Represent Mastercard during key customer-facing events and external industry forums, establishing the company as a thought leader in payments.
- Collaborate with the central public policy team to drive the country-specific public policy agenda and engage in regulatory discussions.
Operational and Financial Accountability
- Own the P&L for Denmark, driving consistent revenue growth and managing financial planning, budgeting, and reporting.
- Report performance metrics and market insights to the divisional management team, ensuring transparency and alignment with regional goals.
- Drive operational excellence by ensuring effective team collaboration and alignment with global standards.
Team Leadership and Culture
- Inspire, manage, and develop a high-performing, cross-functional team, fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.
- Actively identify and nurture talent within the team, promoting a culture of diversity, innovation, and continuous learning.

- Proven success in a leadership role with responsibility for a single market or small cluster of markets, including P&L ownership.
- Strong track record of creating long-term strategies and translating them into actionable plans to achieve market growth.

- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute innovative solutions for customers, enabling business opportunities and delivering measurable results.
- Experience building and maintaining relationships with C-suite executives, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
Regulatory Acumen
- Deep understanding of the regulatory environment in Denmark, with proven success fostering relationships with governments and regulatory bodies.
Team Leadership and Development
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and inspiring collaboration across diverse skill sets and organizational levels.
- Proven success in hiring, developing, and retaining top talent, with a focus on building inclusive and innovative teams.
