COURT OF PROTECTION PARALEGAL

We have an opportunity for a paralegal with an interest in human rights and a strong desire to represent and secure justice for vulnerable adults to join our highly sought after Court of Protection department.
This role may lead to a training contract at a later date depending on performance.
The Court of Protection can make decisions about the health and welfare, and the property and financial affairs of adults who lack mental capacity to make decisions for themselves.
We are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic individual to join our friendly specialist team which provides advice, assistance and representation to vulnerable adults who may lack capacity to make certain decisions, predominantly in relation to their health and welfare and often in complex and high-profile cases. The team normally acts through a litigation friend, such as the Official Solicitor, an advocate or a Relevant Person’s Representative. We also represent family members, carers and other people interested in a vulnerable adult’s welfare.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

The right candidate will have excellent oral and written communication and inter-personal skills and the ability to empathise with vulnerable clients. In addition, they will be proactive, have strong organisational skills, and the ability to multi-task and effectively prioritise in order to meet time recording and billing targets. Good IT skills are also a requirement.
Successful completion of BVC/LPC/SQE and previous paralegal experience are not required but highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

The role will fast-paced, varied and will involve supporting and assisting fee earners within the department with all aspects of case preparation including: drafting Legal Aid applications, drafting wide range of documents i.e. court orders and witness statements, legal research, processing evidence, preparing, collating and ordering documentation, attending on clients, attending case conferences and court hearings, dealing with new enquires, attending ongoing training to keep up to date with relevant legal developments, preparation of court bundles and other administrative tasks.
Training and close supervision would be provided by senior fee earners within team.
