  • Paralegal certificate obtained through either an American Bar Association (ABA) approved paralegal studies program or an accredited institution; and
  • One year of paralegal experience

Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of work experience in a paralegal capacity which included preparing drafts of legal documents and gathering and compiling data from legal references and resources may substitute for the required certificate.
  • A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school may substitute for the required certificate

Responsibilities:

STATEMENT OF DUTIES

This position assists the Executive Director, Office Manager and Special Counsel with processing Requests for Evaluation (“RFE”) of alleged judicial misconduct. The Commission receives hundreds of RFEs each year from members of the public. This position will assist with intake of RFEs, preparing and organizing case files, and drafting routine correspondence. This position will also assist Special Counsel in litigation tasks, including preparing for hearings, organizing exhibits and preparing filings. This position will also assist the Executive Director and Office Manager in other tasks, including preparing and finalizing the annual report.
This position requires independent judgment and self-direction, but also regular, clear communication with the Executive Director, Office Manager and Special Counsel. Additional duties, such as communicating with the public or miscellaneous office work, may be required. This position requires that the candidate abide by the constitutional and statutory confidentiality provisions which govern the Commission’s work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Required Competencies:
The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of people, writing skills, oral communication skills, an understanding of and experience with the operations of courts, and the capacity to work both independently and in a team setting. Good judgment and a strong grasp of ethics are required. A moderate to high proficiency with Microsoft Word and the ability to format documents consistently is required. Basic proficiency with Excel and Adobe Acrobat (or the willingness to gain that proficiency) is required.
Preferred qualifications:
While not required, knowledge of the Colorado Code of Judicial Conduct and the Colorado Rules of Judicial Discipline is an asset. Experience in a wide variety of areas of litigation, including criminal and domestic relations, is preferred. Prior experience working for or with a professional regulatory or oversight entity will be valued. A higher-than-basic level of skill with Excel is an asset.
