The role:
To work with the Credit and Political Risk (CPR) team’s Underwriters in analysing credit risks and providing a credit rating conclusion in accordance with the CPR business plan and risk appetite.
To manage members of the Credit Analyst team.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategy and Planning
- Provide credit analysis on transactions that fit within CPR’s Underwriting and product guidelines.
- Use experience to enhance Aspen’s credit systems and processes within the Credit Analysis team.
Policy, Process and Procedures
- Comply with Aspen’s internal policies and external regulatory and statutory policies.
- Comply with CPR credit and underwriting guidelines.
Environmental Awareness/Customer Focus
- Support Underwriters with timely feedback and response on credit analysis.
- Demonstrates strong understanding and awareness of credit markets and their impact on the transactions Underwriters request credit analysis on.
- Actively participate in regular in person and online CPR and Credit team meetings.
Technical Performance
- Undertakes credit analysis and assign a credit rating conclusion on the risk profiles of obligors, financial structures and transactions, identification of the impact of relevant credit risks in transactions; review of financial models; undertake financial model stress test scenarios; transactions are across a wide range of sectors, geographies and obligors subject to the insurance policy, using a standard ‘template’ to explain the risks, financial calculations and final rating for attachment to CPR’s Cora underwriting system.
- Undertake research and prepare training and presentation materials clearly explaining the relevant credit issues and sectors for delivery to the CPR team.
People Management
- Supports Underwriters with explaining the underlying credit risks and relevant commercial issues on the transactions analysed.
- Highly organised, multi-tasking of all allocated tasks within the Credit and the CPR Team, self management, flexibility to work on competing deadlines.
- Manages, motivates, supports &/or develops Credit Analysts within the Credit Team to ensure the required standards of performance are met and facilitates the continuing of their personal and professional development, including training where appropriate.
- Acts in accordance with, and is an advocate of, the Aspen Values.
Skills & Experience:
- In depth experience of working at a (top tier international) bank in a credit analysis role, (front office) using client and bank prepared materials to write up the analysis, working with financial models, preparing a credit rating, discussing specific credit metrics with bank management and at credit committee/with credit sanctioning officers.
- Specific professional qualifications at degree level or equivalent in finance, economics or related area.
- Qualified within own professional discipline, with significant post-qualification work experience within Project & Infrastructure Financing or Leverage Financing sector and experience in Corporate credit analysis.
- CFA or ACCA would be welcome
- Strong analytical skills to analyse relevant credit risks in complex credit, transaction structures and financial models and arrive at an independent conclusion on the credit rating.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong level of numeracy and literary skills.
- Manage conflicting priorities to achieve deadlines.
- Able to plan effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in team environment, engage and positively influence colleagues.

- Proficient in relevant software, including MS Office applications e.g. Excel as well as other departmental software packages.
