ABOUT THE FACULTY OF CONTINUING EDUCATION

The Faculty of Continuing Education at Mount Royal University is responsible for the revenue generating program delivery of non credit programming. This includes adult continuing studies in business and professional education, community and health studies, academic upgrading and occupational programming. The Faculty also houses the Mount Royal Conservatory which provides trusted musical education for all ages. Rounding out the programming is the Transitional Vocational Program (TVP) and the Inclusive Post Secondary Education program which support adult learners with developmental disabilities. The Faculty of Continuing Education prides itself in offering accessible, relevant and meaningful programming to learners in pursuit of professional and personal development.
Mount Royal University offers credit-free Academic Upgrading courses through the Faculty of Continuing Education and Extension to prepare students for post-secondary studies. Students may improve high school grades or take courses they may have missed to prepare for admission into Alberta’s colleges and universities. Academic Upgrading courses are not eligible for credit towards a high school diploma.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Students will acquire the skills to conduct a fitness and lifestyle appraisal and develop strategies that assist clients with healthy lifestyle changes based on their individual needs, goals and motivation. This course will be based on the Physical Activity Training for Health (PATH) protocol as outlined by the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) and prepares students for the Certified Personal Trainer (CSEP-CPT) certification examinations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Health Science, Kinesiology or related field required
  • CSEP-CPT Examiner experience is an asset
  • Completed Ph.D. is an asset
  • 3-5 years of applicable professional experience
  • Working knowledge of copyright and APA citation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Minimum two years of experience of instructional experience in an adult education environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace
  • Proficiency with the D2L learning management system is an asset

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Faculty of Continuing Education is seeking instructors with the ability to teach the following course(s):

RESPONSIBILITIES

The course consists of 48 hours of classroom instruction using the approved curriculum, invigilation of the final exam, design and implementation of applicable curriculum assessment measures, and marking and submission of final course grades. The instructor must also maintain regular contact with the PFT Administration team and adhere to program policies and deadlines.
