ABOUT THE FACULTY OF CONTINUING EDUCATION & EXTENSION
Mount Royal University offers credit-free Academic Upgrading courses through the Faculty of Continuing Education and Extension to prepare students for post-secondary studies. Students may improve high school grades or take courses they may have missed to prepare for admission into Alberta’s colleges and universities. Academic Upgrading courses are not eligible for credit towards a high school diploma.
Mount Royal University has provided continuing education to the Calgary community and beyond for more than 60 years. We offer more than 1,000 courses and 100 certificate and diploma programs and have more than 50,000 course registrations each year. Our courses cover a wide range of sectors, including but not limited to social services, business, and health. These courses are offered in a variety of formats on campus, online, in the workplace, and in the community.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is intended to broaden student’s awareness of special populations as related to physical activity and the body. The focus will be on physical activity and how it relates to these special populations. Students will gain both theoretical and practical knowledge targeted towards developing, implementing and evaluating physical activity programs in these population groups.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Health Science, Kinesiology or related field required
- Completed Ph.D. is an asset
- 3-5 years of applicable professional experience
- Working knowledge of copyright and APA citation
- Excellent communication skills
- Minimum two years of experience of instructional experience in an adult education environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Self-motivated and self-directed
- Proficiency with Google Workspace
- Proficiency with the D2L learning management system is an asset

RESPONSIBILITIES
The course consists of 48 hours of classroom instruction using the approved curriculum, invigilation of the final exam, design and implementation of applicable curriculum assessment measures, and marking and submission of final course grades. The instructor must also maintain regular contact with the PFT Administration team and adhere to program policies and deadlines.
