Description:
The Centre for Research and Evidence on Security Threats (CREST) is seeking a Marketing Designer with an eye for design to help translate and market cutting-edge research into impactful, visually appealing materials. This is a 6 month contract with a possible extension.
Since its founding in 2015, CREST has been at the forefront of UK research on security threats. Funded by the Home Office, administered by the ESRC, CREST is an interdisciplinary research centre specialising in the behavioural and social science research on security threats. Based within the Department of Psychology at Lancaster University, CREST brings together academics, policymakers, and practitioners to tackle critical security challenges.
A key focus of CREST’s work is ensuring that research findings are not only rigorous but also accessible and practical. To achieve this, CREST produces a variety of resources—including reports, guides, posters, and briefs—designed for practitioners and the public.
As a Marketing Designer, you will play a vital role in creating and refining these resources, reporting directly to the Director of Communications.
Your primary responsibilities include template design and layout, using Adobe InDesign to input and edit content into pre-existing templates, ensuring designs are polished and adhere to our style guidelines. Tasks will involve adjusting text layouts, resolving formatting issues, and ensuring documents are print- and web-ready.
You will also help with marketing these resources, ensuring CREST’s research on topics like risk management, misinformation, and deterrence is communicated effectively to target audiences. This will include putting together the CREST newsletter, updating webpages to ensure research outputs are accessible and well-presented, and crafting social media posts to promote research outputs, events, and resources across platforms.
As well as producing print-ready and web resources, there will be creative opportunities for your own design, including helping with the design and layout of CREST’s bi-annual magazine, CREST Security Review (CSR).This exciting and flexible role has many opportunities for you to excel in different areas, depending on your strengths and interests.
You will work alongside a small, highly motivated, and dynamic team, so it’s essential to be self-driven, able to multitask, and manage your workload efficiently to meet deadlines, particularly during busy periods. Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy is essential. Experience of using other Adobe software like Illustrator and Photoshop to create or adjust artwork would be a strong advantage but not essential as training and support will be provided.
If you’re excited by the opportunity to combine design and digital skills to support impactful research, we’d love to hear from you!
