POSITION OVERVIEW
The Parks Department has an immediate vacancy for three (3) regular full-time Crew Lead, Park Operations. This is routine supervisory work involving the supervision of a group of subordinates engaged in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of parks, open spaces, landscape areas, turf and sports fields. The incumbent is a working supervisor and drives a light truck, with or without trailer, to transport crew, equipment and materials used in the work. Duties are performed according to a predetermined schedule and to established methods and practices. Work performance is reviewed by a superior in terms of effective supervisory services rendered.
EXAMPLES OF WORK INCLUDE:
- Assigns, supervises and assists in the work of a group of subordinates engaged in the maintenance and restoration of parks, open spaces, landscape areas, turf and sports fields including operating a variety of tools and equipment; trains and mentors subordinates; and participates in performance evaluations.
- Ensures for the regular maintenance service and repair of related equipment used by the crew.
- Prepares and maintains simple records related to the work.
- Performs pre-trip inspection and drives a light truck and trailer to transport crew, equipment and materials used in the work.
- Ensures for the safety of the crew and public by enforcing the use of proper safety precautions.
- Responds to inquiries and complaints; addresses issues or concerns; and refers complex matters to a superior.
- Assists with special events in parks.
The successful applicant will possess:
- Working knowledge of the methods, practices, equipment and materials used in operations and maintenance of parks, open spaces, landscape areas, turf and sports fields.
- Ability to supervise and assist in the work of a group of subordinates performing parks maintenance and related duties.
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate and ensure proper maintenance of a variety of equipment.
- Ability to motivate and lead a team effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to prepare and maintain simple operational records.
- Skill in the use and care of a variety of tools and maintenance equipment used in the work.
Qualifications
Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by training or education in horticulture, turf management or recreation management, with considerable experience in park operations including some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid BC Class 5 Drivers License is required.
