Description:
We are seeking a driven and ambitious criminal lawyer to join our law firm, Strategic Criminal Defence, as an Associate lawyer in Saskatchewan.
As an Associate lawyer you will have access to the firm’s client base to sustain your practice and have the security of the legal, management, and marketing resources of the broader organization, as well as mentorship from the Regional Managing Partner.
You will be responsible for all aspects of the client representation, from responding to initial calls or emails for representation to issuing closing letters and statements of account.
To excel in this role, you must possess a passion for criminal law and an ability to work well with all criminal justice system participants. Strong management and organization skills are essential, as well as the ability to work independently.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Juris Doctor law degree from an accredited law school.
- 1-3 years experience in criminal law
- Compliance with local, provincial, and federal laws.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong critical thinking and research skills.
- Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and with a team.
- Willing to practice in Regina or Saskatoon

Responsibilities:
- Remain responsive and accessible to existing and prospective clients
- Conduct research and analyze a case to determine a probable outcome and devise an effective strategy to defend your client/s in court.
- Interpret laws for clients and help them to understand their legal options.
- Aim to resolve cases as quickly and favourably as possible.
- Represent clients at all stages of the court process.
- Present evidence to a judge and/or jury should the case go to trial.
- Prepare and draft legal documents, including legal briefs and appeals.
- Negotiate plea bargains and resolutions
- Maintain a current knowledge of changes and new developments in the legal field.
- Conduct yourself in an ethical and professional manner at all times.
