Description:

The Role: This role is part of the Critical Services team for the Data Centre, supporting the Head of Data Centres & Critical Assets, to ensure availability, performance and safety of the specialist power and cooling infrastructure for the West Cambridge facility, and providing Critical Infrastructure support for other sites around the University Estate.
The role holder works within the Maintenance team of the West Cambridge Data Centre to ensure that services for the Data Centre facility, and other University wide Critical Infrastructure installations supported, are maintained to a high standard, comply with regulations, are safe and that emergencies are dealt with promptly.
The main purpose is to support the Critical Services Team Leader with day-to-day maintenance duties with a minimum of supervision liaising, coordinating and completing maintenance work, and to deputise for the Senior Critical Services Engineer during periods of absence.
The person will be required to complete routine maintenance work, respond to breakdowns, inspections, modifications and project work. They will be required to coordinate and assist other multi-discipline engineers, assistants and contractors on installation projects or service modifications.
The person will possess good communication skills in addition to technical problem-solving skills. They will be required to coordinate work with departmental contacts, take responsibility and act in emergency situations and complete all types of mechanical and electrical maintenance repairs. A detailed knowledge of Data Centre or other Critical Facilities, design, function and distribution will be required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

City and Guilds 2382 Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations (or equivalent).
City and Guilds 2391 Inspection, Testing and Verification of Electrical Installations (or equivalent).

Responsibilities:

  • Good communication skills to enable him/her to explain technical issues to end users.
  • The ability to negotiate with suppliers and contractors on delivery dates and costs.
  • Ability to work alone, and as part of a team.
  • Good oral and written skills for communicating with technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • A positive can-do attitude
  • Reasonable experience in facility management required.
  • Substantial experience in Data Centre or other Critical Environment preferred.
  • Substantial HVAC or Electrical experience preferred
