Job Description:
The Continuing Studies Department is looking for a qualified and enthusiastic Project Management Instructor to join our team. This role involves teaching adult students’ courses in project management, covering key areas such as project planning, scheduling, budgeting, risk management, and leadership. Additionally, the candidate should be prepared to contribute to curriculum development, student advising, and fostering a collaborative student-centered learning environment.
Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Instructor is responsible for the delivery and student evaluation of the assigned course as described in the curriculum/course outline. Instructors are responsible for preparing materials that fulfil the course learning outcomes, planning lessons, developing assignments and exams that reflect the integrated nature of the curriculum.
Course Preparation, delivery, and administrative duties
Core Duties:
- Teaches students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, case studies, and independent or group projects.
- Develops/Revises curriculum and prepares teaching materials and outlines for courses including audio visual and web-related materials where appropriate.
- Prepares, administers and marks papers, quizzes, exams and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students’ progress.
- Provides detailed feedback on student performance.
- Assists and provides support to students and potential students by advising on program curricula.
- Provides individualized or group tutorial or remedial instruction to students who require it.
- Maintains effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, materials, software and tools.
- Adheres to Langara College policies and procedures including being available to students and maintaining confidentiality of student information.
- Updates the course structure, teaching methods and evaluation tools as necessary
- Delivers the curriculum in accordance with the course outline
- Maintains a comprehensive and current knowledge of assigned subject areas
- Monitors student performance and provides constructive feedback to the students throughout the duration of the learning process
- Administers the Course Evaluation Form by the students according to stated procedures
- Submits reports and records, including final grade breakdown, timesheets and attendance registers on time and in accordance with prescribed procedure
Qualifications Required
- Education & Experience
- A Master’s Degree in appropriate discipline from an accredited university or license/designation in related field. In some programs Bachelor degree in related discipline is acceptable.
- Specialized training or exposure to program area for which the position is responsible i.e PMP, PgENG, project management certification, Agile Project Delivery Management, MS Project
- Minimum 2 years teaching experience in a similar course or related subject in a post-secondary institution.
- Experience in developing course materials/curriculum
- Sound knowledge of contemporary adult education principles.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
- Ability to develop and implement new strategies, policies and procedures.
- Ability to interpret and apply College, government, agency, and departmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to exercise a high level of initiative and responsibility.
- Ability to use tact and discretion to deal with or settle complex requests or complaints.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people who have limited English language proficiency.
Salary: $65 - $80 hourly
Scheduling: Course scheduling may vary from term to term.
