The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is seeking an experienced professional to fill the key role of
Cultural Care Coordinator and Diversity Support.
Who We Are:
Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) is the leading health care provider on the western James Bay coast.
WAHA comprises of hospitals in Moose Factory, Fort Albany, and Attawapiskat, with a Health Centre in Moosonee.
WAHA also provides regional outpatient programs, as well as Paramedicine services in Moose Factory, Moosonee,
Fort Albany, Kashechewan, Attawapiskat, and Constance Lake. The span of services, complexity of care needs in the
region, and the depth of health integration has made WAHA a leader and a model of health care services in Northern
Ontario. WAHA consists of 450 employees, a Physician team, many students, as well as community stakeholders. It is
affiliated with Queens University and offers many educational opportunities for current and prospective team
members.

Who You Are

  • Adheres to the OCSWSWW regulations, standards of practice, and competencies
  • Strong writing and reporting skills
  • Ability to be outdoors and have a certain level of physical fitness for land based and arts- based therapy
  • Extensive experience working with Indigenous children, youth and families in a healing and wellness

capacity.

  • Strong understanding of policy, program and evaluation processes
  • Ability to work outside normal hours of operation for special sessions as may be required- including flexibility

What’ll You Do

  • Coordinates workshops and presentations and be directly responsible for contractors providing workshops

and presentations

  • Facilitate indigenous ceremonies and inclusive of other spiritual activities including talking, teaching, healing

circles for the Elders and families

  • Take the lead in promoting cultural values by modelling behavior in a manner that serves as an example of

positive cultural values, attitudes, beliefs and actions

  • Deliver traditional medicine education, for example: teachings, medicine walks, use, storage, medicine bags,

harvesting

  • Provide alternative healing methods for the Elders, such as Massage therapy, sound bath therapy, cedar foot

soaks, hot stone massage, smudging, wholistic healing practices

  • Provide indigenous workshops/presentation on cultural traditional topics

What You Bring

  • Bachelor of Social Work Degree
  • Registered and in good standings with the OCSWSWW
  • Cultural/Diversity Awareness/Sensitively Training
  • At least 3 years social work experience in a hospital setting
  • At least 3 years working in a First Nations Community or within First Nation’s organization
  • Must have a valid Ontario Driver’s License
  • Willing to travel
