The Family Centre is currently looking for an individual interested in working with children and youth as a Cultural Coach in a school setting. We are focused on Trauma-Informed Care for both our communities and staff, and provide services based on research and evidence-based practices. BACKGROUND CHECK PROCESS & REQUIREMENTS:
As part of the selection process, The Family Centre will conduct reference checks with your most recent employers.
- Police Information Check -Vulnerable Sector (completed within the last 6 months)
- Child Intervention Record Check (completed within the last 6 months)
- Registration with a professional body, if eligible (such as RSW)
- $2 million vehicle liability insurance
- Reliable vehicle, available for regular use and valid driver’s license
- 5-year Drivers Abstract
- Our Children Are Sacred Youth Suicide Prevention Training or ASIST Suicide Intervention Training within 3 months of start date
- Standard First Aid Level C CPR within 3 months of start date
Responsibilities:
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
Cultural Coaches support ethnocultural children and youth, who have been identified as in need of support adjusting to life in Canada or reconnecting to their culture. In addition to newcomers, the Coaches work with second- and third- generation immigrant youth who know little about their culture of origin, or may not see the importance of being connected to their heritage. Cultural Coaches assist youth in learning more about their culture and re-establish bonds to their cultural community, thereby increasing the natural support systems surrounding the youth. With support, Coaches hope that the youth will have a better understanding and ability to cope with the cultural differences they are experiencing in their new country, school, and community. The desired outcome for the program is to decrease the youths’ vulnerabilities and increase strengths and resiliencies.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE:
- Degree in Child & Youth Care, Social Work (or),
- Degree in Human Services (Psychology, Sociology, Education, Human Ecology or Early Childhood Development) with experience in the field (or),
- Diploma in Child & Youth Care or Social Work with related experience
- Proficient communication, caseload management, and facilitation skills
- Experience working with diverse populations
