SUMMARY:

The Cultural Orientation Coordinator supports the adjustment of newly arrived refugees to their new community by providing linguistically appropriate orientation of 15 different Cultural Orientation (CO) topics such as Learning English, Education, Employment, Public Assistance, etc. The Cultural Orientation Coordinator coordinates and delivers regular CO classes while collaborating with other Reception & Placement staff to ensure the successful implementation of CO.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education

o Minimum of an undergraduate degree

  • License and Credentials
  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid driver license, with clean driving record
  • Valid vehicle insurance

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • An undergraduate degree in education, social work, international development, or related field
  • Experience working in refugee resettlement strongly preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Skilled in using computer, various software, email and internet.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a multicultural environment
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities; preferred languages include Dari, Pashto, Spanish, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, or Arabic
  • Knowledge of client files documentation and record keeping

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Travel requirements for the position include 50% daytime and 50% night and overnight.

Responsibilities:



    • Use Cultural Orientation Resource Exchange (CORE) materials to provide newly arrived refugees with Cultural Orientation (CO) covering 15 different topics.

    • Schedule and deliver regular CO classes to ensure that all clients receive CO within the 90-day Reception & Placement Period.
    • Plan and implement logistics for CO classes including locating classroom space, submitting appropriate interpretation requests, coordinating transportation, booking guest speakers, etc.
    • Monitor class attendance, ensure completion of post-test, and maintain pertinent documentation in client files.
    • Adjust class format as needed (in person, virtual, home visits) .
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of CO through client surveys at the completion of all sessions.
    • Collect and distribute donations to clients during CO.
    • Train and supervise volunteers and/or interns to assist with CO.
    • Handle concerns regarding client situations or program issues with appropriate staff immediately.
    • Follow the agency policies, R&P Program Standard Operation Procedures, R&P Manual Guidelines, and directives of R&P Director as policies are updated or changed.
    • Other duties as assigned by Director.
