Description:
Under the supervision of the Director/Curator, the Curatorial Assistant works primarily with the Museum’s collection–digitizing the paper documentation & proper care of artifacts. They will also assist in the day-to-day operations, projects, outreach activities, and special events at the Museum, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Applicants must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada, or have refugee status in Canada
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e.: hold a valid SIN # card)
- Applicants must be between the age of 16 & 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment
- Applicants can be a college, CEGEP, or university student
NOTE: Priority will be given to students who have not previously participated in the YCWHO employment program.
- Post-secondary studies are desired in one or more of the following areas: Museum Studies, History, Art History, Archaeology, Anthropology, Library Science, Marketing, Photography, Curatorial, Visual Arts, Education, and/or related fields.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and great organizational skills.
- Knowledge of Canadian and/or Saskatchewan history considered an asset.
- Proficient with computers; include use of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Canva.
- Ability to perform physical tasks.
- Comfortable working with the public of all ages and backgrounds, as part of a team and able to work independently. Customer service experience preferred.
- Prior experience working with children and/or in a museum, art gallery, library an asset but not required.
- Must have a valid drivers’ license.

Responsibilities:
- Perform museum collections management activities such as cleaning, documenting, storing, and labelling artifacts, as well as photographing and database management with these artifacts using the SaskCollection database.
- Answering visitor and public inquiries about the Museum’s collection and local history.
- Prepare and research materials for hands-on activities and exhibitions in the Museum.
- Assisting with the day-to-day operations, educational activities, programs, public and private tours, projects, and special events of the Museum.
- Facilitate Education programs. IE: conduct tours, lead hands-on activities, and day camps to diverse audiences of all ages. (Act in a Support capacity as needed).
- Prepare & distribute promotional materials for summer programs and events, fundraisers, as needed.
- Facilitate with the scanning and cataloging of archival materials into the cloud database for the Museum research library.
- Represent the Museum at key functions and events; this may include speaking to the media and the public about the Museum exhibitions and its programs.
- Perform reception duties for Museum services like greeting/monitoring Museum visitors, answering emails and phone calls, respond/redirect mail/deliveries, public inquiries, handle gift shop transactions, and Museum admissions.
- General cleaning and maintenance of the artifacts, the Museum, and its grounds.
- Other general duties as assigned.
