Job Description:
Langara College is committed to fostering excellence in teaching and curriculum design. The Teaching & Curriculum Development Centre (TCDC) encourages innovation and excellence in curriculum development and program design and provides educational development opportunities for faculty to maintain and improve Langara’s high standards of teaching and learning. TCDC guides departments through the curriculum renewal process with a focus on program strengths and future goals with input from all stakeholders; helps faculty with the design and development of course and program-level curricula; and encourages approaches that reflect the College commitment to Indigenization; equity, diversity and inclusion; and leading practices in quality assurance to meet the College’s educational goals.
As part of the Teaching and Curriculum Development Centre (TCDC) team, the Curriculum Consultant, reporting to the Department Chair, works with faculty across the College to design courses for face-to-face and online modalities, and works closely with subject-matter experts to develop and renew detailed curricula and assessments. In addition, Curriculum Consultants support departments to achieve action plan curricular goals in response to the program review process. Curriculum Consultants also support individual faculty members to enhance their teaching and course planning skills.
Job Description Responsibilities

Program Development and Renewal

  • support faculty individually or in groups in developing learning outcomes at the course and program level
  • work with departments to develop or revise program and course learning outcomes
  • work with faculty to develop and implement curricular renewal processes
  • work with faculty and departments to collaboratively develop project management plans regarding curricular work to align with Education Council (EdCo) submission deadlines
  • lead curriculum mapping processes with academic departments
  • collaborate with the office of Academic Quality Assurance to coordinate with programs to develop and implement Action Plans resulting from Program Review
  • assist in departmental or faculty research efforts that pertain to program development, renewal, or the scholarship of teaching and learning

Educational Development

  • develop resources and deliver workshops related to effective practices in course and program design, assessment, teaching and learning
  • develop resources related to curriculum development, renewal, and assessment
  • share and promote effective strategies and approaches in teaching, learning, and assessment throughout the College
  • collaborate with TCDC Educational Developers to facilitate professional learning opportunities
  • collaborate with EdTech Advisors to help instructors integrate current academic technology and principles of universal design for learning into course design
  • assist faculty (individually and in groups) in choosing the most effective instructional strategies and assessment techniques for content, level of learners, delivery mode, and desired outcomes

College and Department Service

  • collaborate as required on updating policies and procedures related to curriculum in the context of the College’s strategic direction
  • participate in strategic and budget planning as required
  • participate in a variety of College committees as appropriate
  • represent the College at relevant provincial and national committees

Required Qualifications

  • minimum of a master’s degree in education or a related field; combination of education and experience may be considered
  • five or more years’ experience in teaching in a post-secondary environment, with a preference for individuals with experience in both face-to-face and online delivery
  • five or more years of related educational experience such as instructional design and curriculum/program development
  • recent experience (past 4-5 years) in program development

Skills

  • knowledge of current research (e.g., scholarship of teaching and learning, educational psychology, cognitive science, curriculum studies) as it relates to curriculum design and teaching and learning
  • strong interpersonal skills acknowledging and showing respect for the opinions and expertise of others
  • excellent facilitation techniques including the ability to identify and respond appropriately to the cues of others
  • ability to work collaboratively with diverse academic and administrative staff
  • superior organizational and time management skills
  • effective planning skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while setting and maintaining priorities
  • excellent written and oral communication skills
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office computer applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Teams).
  • understanding of program and curriculum requirements of the Degree Quality Assessment Board and Quality Assurance Process Audit of British Columbia
  • assessment and program development expectations of the provincial Ministry of Advanced Education
  • knowledge of curriculum development and Academic Quality Assurance processes currently in use at the College
  • knowledge of College organization and systems

Salary Range:
$45.88 - $94.99
Salary Range Placement: Salary placement is on Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
