WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU BRING?

  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (e.g. Adult Education, Technical Communication) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent
  • Several years of directly related work experience in designing and developing instructor-led training programs that include practical, hands-on training.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated experience in the field of technical communications/technical publications, including the use of authoring tools (structured or unstructured), style guides, and content and/or document management systems
  • Well-developed technical writing and editing skills with ability to analyze, organize, review, and edit complex/technical information/documentation
  • Considerable experience in hands-on technical, operational, and/or safety training
  • Demonstrated experience developing training programs for technical and hands-on operational requirements
  • Strong understanding of research methods and techniques including occupational analyses, surveys, focus groups and structured interviews; and the ability to conduct descriptive statistical procedures and interpret results
  • Sound understanding of procedures/practices for conducting needs analyses, evaluating training programs and materials, and developing and validating criterion-referenced tests and other assessment instruments
  • Demonstrated ability to apply principles of readability, document design, and information design
  • Demonstrated experience in project management
  • Sound judgement and well-developed organizational, interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of document processing software designed for writing and editing large or complex documents
  • Demonstrated ability to develop training products in a range of instructional media including but not limited to print-based and video-based training, and to use the requisite software applications
  • Ability to work independently and manage large projects throughout the development life-cycle, as well as coordinate with a variety of clients to develop effective training materials

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Training you will develop hands-on, operations-specific training programs, and review and revise those programs. Develops training material and applies criteria, standards, and guidelines for the instructional development process, and manages numerous concurrent development projects. Works in conjunction with internal resources, and coordinates the development of training programs with subject matter experts. The role also assists with the assessment, verification, and processing of employee educational qualifications/trade license as well as assists with position test planning and administration.
You will also develop design plans to establish instructional and assessment strategies and components for a wide range of operations training programs and assessment material under development in coordination with SMEs, as well as for other documentation, including but not limited to corporate notices, SOPs, RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs.
You will accurately identify and explain safety-critical content in all programs, ensuring it is documented and instructed on clearly; conduct train-the-trainer sessions, workshops, peer-training, and related activities as required; and ensure that all program development activities comply with the Operations Training Centre’s SOPs and standards, corporate safety programs, policies and legislated initiatives and regulations.
In addition to the above, you will be responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service provider and an employer.
