Description:

SUMMARY

The Custodian position performs routine cleaning and maintenance work to maintain a safe and clean environment for clients, guests, and staff. Custodians work to create a clean, orderly, and safe environment by performing a wide variety of cleaning and maintenance activities on buildings. While custodians mainly work inside, they also have duties that take place outside like sweeping walkways and picking up litter.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

The Custodian must have a High School diploma and some training in various maintenance procedures. Computer experience helpful. Must have a valid Florida driver’s license and a clean driving record as determined by the insurance carrier for the Diocese of Orlando.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

The position requires workers to be able to stand on their feet for prolonged periods of time and follow strict safety regulations when handling equipment. They also wear protective gear such as steel-toed boots, and goggles. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Also, requires walking, sitting, bending, stretching, and stooping for assemblage, set-up, and layout

General functions:

  • Maintain floors in a clean state by sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, and waxing them if needed.
  • Empty and clean trash receptacles and collect recycling where applicable.
  • Clean, sanitize, and supply bathroom and breakroom facilities.
  • Clean and service custodial equipment as needed.
  • Perform minor repairs on furniture and simple equipment.
  • Clean windows at least every two weeks.
  • Safeguard all cleaning supplies and tools, and report weekly supply usage to supervisor.
  • Report any safety, sanitary, or fire hazards to the appropriate department.
  • Lock/unlock windows, doors, and gates; turn lights off or on as appropriate.
  • Ensure ground areas are clean and orderly including picking up litter and emptying outside garbage cans.
  • Cultivate a positive work environment by greeting and collaborating with clients, staff, and guests.
  • Perform general cleaning and upkeep, special events set up, and clean up.
  • Replenish custodial supplies. i.e., paper towels, toilet paper, soap, hand sanitizers, etc.
  • Clean and sanitize assigned areas including furniture, telephones, doors, door handles, fixtures, walls, windows, windowsills, blinds, and vents.
