Responsibilities:

The Training team are an integral part of Learning and Development. Mitie Care & Custody, Police Services require a Custody Detention Training Officer to develop and assist the Training Manager in maintaining a curriculum for custody detention training, incorporating both theoretical and practical components, identifying any training needs for CDS staff in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE); the associated Codes of Practice Authorised Professional Practice (APP); Contracted Police Forces; College of Policing and Company policy under direction.
The Custody Detention Training Officer will report to the Training Manager and will work with all members of the Team to provide support as required.
As a Custody Detention Training Officer, you will be required to design, develop, and deliver comprehensive training programs for custody detention staff, ensuring they possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies to effectively manage and care for detainees while maintaining a safe and secure environment in line with regulatory and legislative guidance and the organisation’s objectives. You will assist the Governance and Development Lead to design and undertake custody detention audits which will significantly enhance training by providing valuable insights and feedback on current practices, identifying areas for improvement, and ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.

Person Specification Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience in a custody detention role and mentorship role
  • Previous experience as a trainer
  • Be able to work individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to work swiftly, with accuracy, in a busy environment
  • Able to work to deadlines effectively and can prioritise workloads
  • Confident working independently with minimal supervision (home-based role)
  • Competent in oral and written English
  • Committed to completing training that is a requirement of the role
  • Demonstrable IT skills including use of systems, such as Microsoft 365 platform, MS Teams and experience of learning and using new systems.
  • Personal integrity and commitment to values-driven service ethos
  • Ability to produce high quality reports
  • To be aware of and maintain the confidentiality of all information gained within the working environment
  • Ability to travel nationwide as required
