Mō te tūnga | About the role
Our Custody Unit team are seeking motivated individuals to work in the Custody Unit.
The role of a Custody Officer within NZ Police is pivotal, Custody Officers are responsible for providing care for detainees whilst they are in our custody and during transit.
You will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of the detainee, monitoring behaviour and state providing appropriate care and ensuring professional standards are continuously met. This role is not for the faint hearted and will require someone who is confident, open-minded with attention to detail and willing to follow stringent safety procedures.
The Wairarapa area offers a wide range of outdoor activities, hunting, fishing, tramping and mountain biking to name a few. Wairarapa Area covers the top of the Remutaka Hill to Mount Bruce, and from the east coast to the top of the Tararua Ranges. It is Wellington District’s largest geographic area. Strong attention to detail. Accurate and precise, the ability to record and prepare information such as statements for court.
Duty of care, understanding the welfare, health, safety and level of care required for detainees.
Strong team player, reliable, trustworthy, flexible to work shifts, weekends, public holidays.
Decisive, cool, calm and collected, you can think on your feet, using your initiative and work well under pressure.
Good computer skills are comfortable learning new systems, you will be required to input and update data accurately in Police systems, accurate typing abilities are essential.

To be eligible for this role, you must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET SPECIAL national security clearance.
The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:
NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 15 years, or:
A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 15 years, or
A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 15 years : Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

Utu ā-tau | Salary
This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $74,748 and $78,129 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
