We are looking for a Dam Safety Engineer for the 11 water dams (hydropower) located in northern British Columbia, specifically near Burns Lake and Vanderhoof. These dams are part of the Nechako Watershed, which plays a vital role in generating hydroelectric power for the aluminum smelter in Kitimat. The energy produced from these dams is crucial to supporting the region’s industrial operations, including powering the smelter.

Reporting to the Senior Dam Safety Engineer and working on a Monday-to-Friday schedule, you will be:
- Conducting dam safety assessments and behavioural monitoring in collaboration with Consulting Engineering Firms.
- Carrying out bi-annual inspections, including condition assessments of dam assets and related structures.
- Supervising and managing asset inspections, studies, and investigations to ensure compliance with the Dam Safety Act and internal standards.
- Collaborating with Consulting Engineering Firms and civil technical teams to define project guidelines, requirements, and specifications.
- Leading and participating in the development of civil project lists and budget definitions.
- Ensuring technical leadership and adherence to Rio Tinto’s internal standards for slopes management and civil infrastructure for Hydro power underground operations.
- Overseeing the follow-up and approval of on-site work, coordinating with Project Managers and Consulting Engineering Firms.
- Technical involvement in growth projects.
- Working closely with multidisciplinary teams and management to ensure project success and compliance.
