Seniors, Community and Social Services provides supports for seniors, families, and communities, and helps Albertans access disability services, financial supports, affordable housing, services for the homeless, and other social-based programs. The Ministry supports Albertans through a person-centered, integrated service delivery model that recognizes the unique circumstances, experiences and strengths of individuals and families.
The Housing division within Alberta Seniors, Community and Social Services uses a community-based delivery model for the provision of housing programs, initiatives, and services to a wide variety of Albertans in need of housing solutions. The Housing division works with over 350 housing providers (municipalities, housing management bodies, and non-profit and private sector organizations) to provide stable and sustainable lower-cost housing for Albertans in need, including support for existing and new housing options for over 120,000 low-income families, individuals, seniors, and individuals with disabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

A university degree in a related field (public policy, social sciences, public administration, economics, or other related discipline) supplemented with a minimum of two (2) years of related experience in a research and/or policy environment is required.

Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Experience in research, data collection, statistical analysis, and stakeholder relations, and project management is an asset.
Knowledge of the Seniors, Community and Social Services processes and cross-ministry initiatives, as well as relevant legislation, regulations, policies, business plans and strategic initiatives of the department is considered an asset.

Responsibilities:

The Research and Analytics team within the Housing Division is seeking a self-motivated, results-driven individual with a passion for identifying complex issues and trends through data research. We are looking for an individual who can use research and analytical skills to support the affordable housing system in Alberta.
The Data and Research Analyst plays a key role in developing and supporting an integrated system view of Alberta’s affordable housing environment. This includes being responsible for identifying, compiling, organizing, analyzing, and reporting on data to support the core functions of the division.
The successful candidate must understand research methods and be able to use various types of data to answer questions. This may include administrative datasets, financial data, or qualitative data from surveys.
A key part of this role includes communicating with stakeholders to answer questions and complete Housing Needs Assessments to determine different housing needs across Alberta communities. This requires excellent communication skills and diligence in corresponding with stakeholders to provide necessary information.
The successful candidate requires strong writing skills and the ability to understand government priorities, identify issues and develop appropriate solutions. The candidate must be able to analyze information from various primary and secondary sources and provide evidence-based solutions or advice to senior leaders. This role requires the ability to organize and manage a multitude of projects simultaneously with both short and long-term timelines.
