The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Data Governance Analyst Co-op Student/Intern for the Winter & Summer (January to August 2025) work terms to support the Corporate Data & Operations team. - Has a keen interest in the business aspects of data and analytics, in a way, making sense of data
- Is an effective communicator and good listener
- Ready to learn more about the investment management industry and how data drives it
- Exhibit a high level of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy, excellent product quality, and attention to detail
- Has an interest in data, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and an eagerness to learn
- Ability to use Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
- Familiarity using Microsoft 365 tools such as One Drive, SharePoint Online, and MS Teams would be an asset
- Familiarity with data governance tools such as MS Purview would be beneficial (not required)
- Ability to read and write basic code scripts in SQL (preferred)
- A foundation in relevant technical skills, such as SQL, data modeling, and data visualization tools, will help you succeed in this rol
Responsibilities:
- Support the development, documentation and maintenance of data dictionaries, data catalogs, and other data governance artifact
- Assist in the design and implementation of data quality and data validation rules, ensuring that data is of high quality
- Participate in data governance meetings and workshops, contributing to discussions and providing insights on data-related issues and challenges.
- Help conduct data governance training and awareness programs for employees
- Gathering requirements for low to medium complexity projects
- Work closely with data stewards across the business to understand their scope of data
