Description:

Salary: Circa £42,000 per annum negotiable depending on experience + fantastic benefits
Jisc grade: PRS3 (internal use only)
Hours: 35 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Location: Hybrid - A blend of working from home and your nominated hub office, we have hubs in London, Bristol, Manchester and Oxford. Specific patterns for working in the office are not mandated, and the frequency of time worked in the office is agreed with your manager. Meeting in person is something we value so you may need to travel on occasion to any of our hub offices.

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • You will have experience of working in an equivalent data governance role or environment
  • Ideally you will have worked on technical/IT activities with a range of audiences and roles within an organisation.
  • You will have worked with business users, data architects, data stewards and business analysts.
  • Experience of planning and conducting checks, reviews and assessments in line with the requirements of ISO standards such as ISO 9001 or 27001.
  • The experience of working with metadata architectures and standards, data models and confident use of tools and dashboards to monitor the health of the data estate.
  • You will have the ability to communicate and adapt as appropriate to the audience and medium, and to build a strong rapport with individuals at all levels of Jisc.
  • You are flexible in approach and able to adapt to new situations, communicating as appropriate to the audience and context.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As the Data Governance Analyst will play a key role in the development, implementation and maintenance of the data governance framework for our structured data across the business to ensure its data quality, security, privacy, and regulatory compliance. You will contribute to all operational aspects of the Data governance team’s work and support the Data governance manager in Jisc wide projects and programmes featuring data governance considerations.
You will be helping to improve our data standards, working closely with our data architects, data stewards, the information security and privacy teams, and your colleagues in the data governance team to assess and advise the business on the compliance of our data estate with Jisc’s data governance standards. Your role will be to work closely with stakeholders across Jisc in developing and embedding best data practices. This will require expanding our capability and accountability through standards, policies, guidance and processes for the effective governance of the value, risks and constraints related to Jisc’s structured data; from creation or acquisition to eventual disposal, and the development of a mature responsible data culture.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To lead on the development of structured data governance standards, related policy and the monitoring and reporting on the management of risk and value of Jisc’s structured data estate for operational and strategic purposes, and to ensure Jisc is meeting its legal and ISO27001 obligations for the management of its structured data assets.
  • You will represent the Data governance team as required in different governance groups such as CAB-IT, Data Governance leads quarterly meetings and IDGG as a subject matter expert and providing thought leadership.
  • To maintain an awareness of legal and practical requirements related to data governance and the ability to apply them to Jisc’s operations, contributing to the development and maintenance of Jisc information and data policies, processes, standards and guidance.
  • You will develop our use of data governance tools and technical controls for structured data assets, for example but not limited to, the Microsoft Purview data map and data catalogue or the application of data governance controls in tools such as Databricks’ unified data catalogue.
  • To be actively engaged in the design and delivery of key data governance programme projects and initiatives to develop Jisc’s data governance maturity, for example advising and supporting the technical teams’ deployment of metadata to support effective data governance.
