About the role
The new role of Data Governance and Lead Analyst, reporting to the Planning & Performance Manager within the Planning and Analytics team, is pivotal in driving the success of King’s online programmes. This role is essential for understanding student data and engagement, ensuring robust data governance, protecting intellectual property, and maintaining the value of King’s digital offerings. Key responsibilities include producing insightful reports and analyses, comprehending the data underpinning King’s Digital operations, and influencing key stakeholders to drive improvements and increase productivity through tools like Power BI.
Overseeing the Data Analyst, this role plays a key part in shaping the King’s Digital Data Strategy. It involves delivering actionable insights and analysis to senior partners, collaborating with analysts, BI developers, and end users, and producing engaging reports and visualisations across various domains.
Responsibilities include planning and organising workloads, leading projects or work streams, and supporting process reviews with stakeholders and project teams to identify and implement more efficient alternatives, ensuring continuous improvement. The role requires liaising with multiple University faculties and working closely with the Students and Education Directorate (SED) Data Governance & Security team, adapting to changing priorities to ensure the seamless operation and ongoing improvement of King’s Digital services.
This is a full-time post and you will be offered an indefinite contract
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • Able to use one or more business intelligence/analysis tools and/or associated languages for example Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, SQL, SSRS, R, DAX, Python, M, Excel, VBA
  • Able to deploy a range of techniques to analyse, interpret and problem solve using data
  • Act as a point of referral for specialised knowledge and ensure ongoing development of team skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate the outcome of analysis verbally, in writing and via presentations
  • Experience in working with a range of different stakeholders
  • Ability to manage own workload and work with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of the principles of data governance and compliance and the ability to share that knowledge with team members.

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of the Higher Education sector
  • Experience of line managing and developing a small team
  • Data Analytics or Business Analytics certification such as Microsoft Power Platform PL-300 or PL-900 certification or equivalent
  • Understanding of Freedom of Information and data protection legislation.
