At NAIT Student Progression is comprised of two main areas: Education Insights, Data and Research (EI) and the Office of the Registrar.
Education Insights, Data and Research (EI) - performs research, analyses, and reporting to provide critical insights and recommendations to support decision makers across campus. The team is comprised of Data & Insight Specialists, Data & Insight Analysts, Research Specialists and Research Analysts.
The new role of a Data & Insight Analyst will support and report to the existing Data & Insight Specialist. The Data & Insight Analyst works with other members of the team to provide business intelligence for decision makers across campus. The Data & Insight Analyst applies their vast knowledge and essential skill in data handling and reporting to access data within institutional databases and produce reports for use by stakeholders.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Advanced skills with business intelligence tools such as PowerBI/DAX, SQL Server and Excel
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Able to learn quickly and independently when facing new problems or situations
  • Knowledge of post-secondary Institution programs, policy, procedures, and reporting environments
  • Understanding of software development lifecycles, data modelling, and business intelligence approaches such as Kimball data warehouse
  • Knowledge of data visualization best practices
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interpret and explain data insights to a non-technical audience using business language
  • Ability to elicit requirements from business users and work with IT teams to translate requirements into useable data structures
  • Ability to work independently and as part of cross-functional teams
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working with institutional data, preferably in a post-secondary institution
    Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
    Remuneration: $72,614.62 - $96,198.96 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities:

  • Offers key support to the Data & Insight Specialist in meeting the data analysis and reporting needs of programs, schools, and central administrative departments
  • Contributes to the design, construction, testing, and deployment of business intelligence and reporting solutions that inform decisions made by stakeholders across the institute. This includes standardized reports, dashboards, exploratory views, and data exports
  • Sources, cleanses, and models large data sets for data warehouse and for projects
  • Uses data visualization tools and techniques to explore trends and communicate findings to stakeholders
  • Accesses, compiles, organizes data for distribution to stakeholders
  • Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of data and information when supporting leaders through decision making processes
  • Performs and supports data reporting that inform admissions and student financial support policies, program efficacy assessment, program renewal, curriculum assessment, institutional enrolment planning, and budgets
  • Develops an understanding of stakeholder’s needs by participation in meetings and other requirement gathering activities with individuals and groups
  • Works in an iterative, agile manner with stakeholders to validate and incorporate requirements into projects
  • Maintains knowledge of business source systems and processes by maintaining contact with subject matter experts in the registrar’s office and program areas
  • Collaborates with other members of Education Insights in delivering needed support to stakeholders
  • Ensure that projects follow best practice for data visualization, modelling, and data governance
