Description:

We’re on the hunt for an experienced professional who can support the Customer Brand & Engagement (CB&E) function to deliver great data that is at the heart of how we engage with our customers. We are looking for someone who is proactive, collaborative and has the drive to push the boundaries of how we work today.
Building cohesive relationships with stakeholders across the whole society is critical to succeeding in this role. We offer hybrid working with a minimum of 2 days a week in either our Bournemouth or Swindon office for effective collaboration (or more if you prefer). There will also be visits to other sites for workshop and planning sessions from time to time.
This role is part of our Enablement & Operations team – specifically working in the data focused segment of the team. We treat data as a valued asset, its our job to ensure CB&E consumes and protects its data in line with the Society’s strategic drivers and the enterprise data governance policy.
Our aim is to become the key custodians of the CB&E data ecosystem through recognised data management practices and principles. We are key to reducing risk and ensuring we remain compliant, whilst striving for the simplicity that enables CB&E to make effective and data-driven decisions.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job you’ll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you’ll spend 40% of your working time, at one of our offices. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.
If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

ABOUT YOU

As a team we pride ourselves on supporting each other to push for better and get things done. We want someone that will bring their own skills & perspective to contribute to our successful team.
You’ll have a genuine passion for data and a good understanding of how it’s used to drive decisions. You’ll be resilient and bring a fresh can-do attitude to the role.

You’ll be able to evidence skills in…

  • Stakeholder management: Collaborating with all of our stakeholders, you’ll be skilled at gathering, interpreting and mapping business requirements
  • Value focused: Clearly explaining what you are doing, but more importantly why you are doing it. You’ll utilise resources to make the biggest impact.
  • Problem solving: Enjoying the challenge of analysing and documenting technical concepts to help CB&E drive their decision making, as well as seeking improvements.
  • Data translation: Comfortable communicating your findings to audiences of varying seniority, translating a complex theme into clear narrative
  • Data Champion: Using your expertise with data and knowledge of data policies to work collaboratively with different areas across CB&E, influencing CB&E’s data agenda to drive consistency, best practice and tooling for the function.

Whilst not essential, ideally you might also have:

  • Experience working in customer centric role within financial services
  • Knowledge and experience of SAS / SQL
  • Experience with data management tooling (such as Collibra)
  • Experience of working in business transformation programmes in a project environment

Our Customer First behaviours are all about putting customers and members at the heart of how we work together. You can strengthen your application by showing the behaviours that resonate with you, and how you might have already demonstrated these.

  • Say it straight - This is about being honest and direct with good intent and saying what needs to be said in the room. It’s also about being clear, precise, and using language that we and, importantly, our customers and members can understand.
  • Push for better - This is about aiming high and constantly looking for better in how we work together and serve our customers and members.
  • Get it done - This is about prioritising what will have the greatest impact, being decisive and taking accountability for delivering on the end-to-end outcome.

We know applying for jobs can sometimes feel like you’re sending an application into a black hole. We review each application individually. So, it’s a good idea to call out your most relevant experience on your application to give yourself the best chance.

Responsibilities:

This role is key to implementing the data management & governance strategy for CB&E as we drive forward our data maturity and related processes. A day in the life of this role could vary across many areas, including mapping the lineage of our data, enhancing our controls around data risk, and working with project teams to understand their impact on our governance policy.
As our data management strategy evolves, so will this role. We are therefore looking for someone that can bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to deliver the most value in the area.
Building relationships will be key to succeeding in this role. The data we use is owned across different teams which have different goals and priorities. You will drive and support the data governance forum to ensure issues are visible and resolved at the appropriate level. Troubleshooting data related problems, you’ll support data consumers within CB&E to ensure we are compliant and working with the highest quality data.
