Location: Remote – Open to anywhere in Canada.

Starting Salary Range: $86,500 - $91,500

JOB SUMMARY:

As a member of the National Circle for Indigenous Medical Education’s (NCIME) Academic team, the Data Manager, plays a pivotal role in overseeing NCIME’s data strategy. Reporting to the CEO, the Data Manager in collaboration with the ED Academic will negotiate data agreements with medical schools, manage the NCIME’s Indigenous Medical Educators database and ensure all data-sharing activities adhere to Indigenous data sovereignty principles while also being PIPEDA-compliant. The successful candidate will oversee the reporting and dissemination of key data in including the deployment of dashboards and production of annual reports that provide insights and metrics about Indigenous medical education, health education research and healthcare human resources (HHR) in Canada. As a pivotal leader, you will guide the data governance practices, manage NCIME’s data ecosystem efficiently, spearhead data engineering and integration strategies, establish processes, standards and best practices to ensure the delivery of reliable and timely data.

Responsibilities:

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Negotiate data agreements between NCIME and Canadian medical schools/professional medical associations;
  • Understand and translate complex data structures, advanced analytical techniques, and strategic management within a data-intensive environment;
  • Interact with and respond to external requests for data;
  • Provide guidance as needed to IT and Database manager on data centre needs;
  • Manage relationships with third-party data-related vendors;
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), data dictionaries and user guides;
  • Ensure adherence to compliance requirements and ethical considerations in data handling;
  • Review and optimize the design and security of the Association’s SQL databases to meet the current data reporting standard;
  • Develop, implement and streamline data management policies, procedures, and standards to ensure data quality, consistency, efficiency and productivity align with industry best practices;
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate data operations performance and implement corrective actions;
  • Prepare datasets for efficient use by BI and statistical analysis software, e.g., PowerBI;
  • Prepare data for use by the Academic team, Academic Advisory Council, or CEO;
  • Willing to travel occasionally and work flexible hours to meet deadlines, as required; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you’ll need to be successful in the role (essential qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Business Administration (with a focus on Information Systems), Statistics, Social Sciences (with focus on quantitative research) or a related field OR relevant experience running a technology startup company, or data analytics division within a reputable organization;
  • Minimum of five years of experience in data development and management, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the data life cycle;
  • Practical experience in survey and statistical methodology (descriptive and inferential statistics, survey designs), Microsoft Management Studio, advanced database queries (SQL), version control tools (GitHub), PowerBi;
  • Experience in overseeing the design, development, and support of comprehensive data solutions that are secure, scalable, and reliable;
  • Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Comprehensive expertise in data privacy, security standards, and data governance principles, including the regulatory frameworks governing the protection of sensitive personal data;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and lead within a team environment as well as work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the capability to present data insights to non-technical stakeholders effectively;
  • A commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest technologies and methodologies in data analytics;
  • Extensive experience in leading data architecture projects, including the enablement, compliance, development and maintenance of data warehouses and pipelines. Prior work with MS SQL databases is required;
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Management Studio for database management and analysis;
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze complex data sets and derive actionable insights;
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to align operational initiatives with organizational goals and objectives;

While fulfilling job responsibilities, this role requires flexibility to work in different environments, including a remote home office setup, occasional travel, and participation in in-person meetings. Due to these demands, the employee will typically engage in the following activities:

  • Extended periods of sitting, often at a computer workstation.
  • Flexibility in work hours, including the potential for occasional overtime, to meet project deadlines, especially when coordinating with different time zones or during travel
