HE ANGITŪTANGA: THE OPPORTUNITY

The Group Shared Services Division of Auckland Council is seeking an experienced Data Platform Engineer to support the design, development, and management of essential data infrastructure supporting the Council’s data and analytics initiatives. In this role, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining a high-performance, scalable, and secure data platform that ensures seamless data integration, access, and availability across the Council’s technology landscape. Your expertise in cloud-based data platform management—including optimizing data storage solutions such as data lakes, data warehouses, and other infrastructure—will be essential to supporting Auckland Council’s data-driven goals.

Key to what you will be doing include:

  • Contribute to the management of cloud data environments, including Snowflake and Azure, by assisting in the configuration and optimization of resources for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Support the use of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform and CloudFormation, to aid in infrastructure deployment and management automation.
  • Establish monitoring solutions and performance benchmarks to proactively address potential issues, enhance platform efficiency, and support the evolving needs of data operations.
  • Set up automated alerting and self-healing measures to maintain high availability of data systems.
  • Work closely with Data Engineers, Analysts, Scientists, and other stakeholders to understand and address their data requirements.
  • Collaborate with Technology Services Operations teams to integrate data platforms with other systems and infrastructure, ultimately supporting Auckland Council’s data-driven goals with innovative and reliable solutions.

HE KŌRERO MŌU: ABOUT YOU

We are seeking candidates with over 7 years of experience in infrastructure and platform management within data-rich environments. A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field is required, with cloud platform certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP) preferred.
The ideal candidate will have proven expertise in managing cloud-based data platforms, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), and optimizing data storage and processing for high performance and availability. A strong understanding of data warehousing, data lake architectures, and security best practices is essential, along with the ability to build secure, scalable data environments that support analytics and integration across complex systems.
