POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

The Sarver Heart Center is seeking a Data Scientist III. This person will facilitate the bioinformatics component of research activities focused on mechanisms of myocardial regeneration in the research program of Hesham Sadek, MD, PhD. This will require demonstrated experience with biomedical data analysis or working on healthcare-related machine learning projects, strong statistical analysis skills and experience working with large, complex datasets.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in NLP, with experience in text analysis, language modeling, and sentiment analysis. Experience with one or more modern NLP frameworks and tools (e.g., Transformers library, NLTK, SpaCy, BERT, AllenNLP, Gensim), is a strong plus.
  • Expertise in programming languages such as Python, R, or Java, and familiarity with machine learning libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
  • Expertise with data preprocessing, feature extraction, and model validation techniques.
  • Familiarity with audio processing libraries (e.g., LibROSA, AudioKit, Kaldi, PyAudio, SpeechRecognition, Praat, Wav2Vec).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Master’s Degree required.

Responsibilities:

  • As a subject matter expert in AI methodology on the research team, participate with Principal Investigators and key personnel collaborators (internal and external) to coordinate planning, organizing and designing of scientific or medical research projects and experimental protocols.
  • Independently perform assigned bioinformatic components of projects and protocols.
  • Attends weekly team meetings to discuss results and plan experiments to ensure that projects support current team objectives.
  • Gather, review and analyze biomedical data requiring the application of statistical and/or mathematical computation and analysis tools.
  • Evaluate new platforms, techniques and scientific programs and revise techniques or approaches to work as necessitated by large complex research data.
  • Develop, compile and submits research results to supervisor.
  • Prepare or assist in preparation of research papers, reports, and abstracts for publication as one of co-authors.
