Description:

You have a clear understanding of the legislation, regulation and codes of practice governing information compliance, with experience of applying best practice requirements when sharing information internally and externally.
You should have experience of developing and applying policies and procedures to govern organisational practise, coupled with the ability to think strategically to achieve robust and compliant information sharing and handling.
You will need to apply problem-solving abilities to complex scenarios, demonstrate practical and theoretical knowledge of data protection, handle diverse queries and advise independently while using your own specialist expertise and judgement.

Responsibilities:
THE ROLE
The University of Bristol is recruiting a Data Sharing and Compliance Officer to help meet statutory obligations across its broad range of information sharing activities. This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in a broad institutional initiative to implement best practise and improve the processes for sharing information, both internally and externally.
The Information Compliance Team is responsible for ensuring compliance with information-related legislation, ensuring relevant considerations are addressed in all partnerships that involve the sharing of personal and confidential information, including within the University’s research activities. The Data Sharing and Compliance Officer post will enable a more cohesive approach to this objective.
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
The role holder will independently apply specialist legal knowledge to assess and review data sharing/processing agreements and other relevant contracts.
They will draft, review and implement policies, procedures and notices to enable the effective and compliant sharing of University information.
They will advise on the data protection considerations in research studies, including the review of consent forms, participant information notices, applications for data and ethics approval.
They will use data protection impact assessments to assess and mitigate any risks associated with these activities throughout the information lifecycle. The University is embarking on an exciting institutional project to ensure it has the capability and framework to manage its information in the best way possible.
The role holder will create and maintain a database of data sharing and processing agreements in collaboration with other internal stakeholders and advise on international transfers of personal data ensuring necessary contractual provisions and assessments are undertaken.
They will cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external.
They will also be required to contribute to other areas of the Information Compliance Team’s work, such as handling data breaches, projects, responding to queries and managing a complex individual caseload.
