Description:

Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is looking for a Advanced Information Technologist – Database Administrator to join our growing Data Analytics Engineering & Integration team in Ridley Park, PA; Seattle, WA; or Hazelwood, MO. This team is tasked with transforming the way BDS data is sourced, managed, and utilized to unlock insights to drive business growth and optimization. The team supports data needs for internal stakeholders, across BDS business programs and functions, and is tasked with utilizing data to inform and improve the full lifecycle of BDS products.
We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and maintain our database systems, ensuring their performance, security, and availability. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database administration with experience in managing databases on AWS platforms considered a plus. You will be responsible for optimizing database performance, implementing security measures, and supporting data integrity and recovery processes.
This role requires a resourceful, self-driven, outcome-oriented individual with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to partner, execute, and communicate skillfully, while solving complex problems in dynamic environments. The ideal candidate will have experience with large scale data platforms, cloud computing, hybrid clouds, software development, and requirements management.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • 5+ years of experience in database management and administration
  • Proficiency in database management systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or Oracle.
  • Strong knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with AWS database services (Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, Amazon Redshift) is a significant advantage.
  • Familiarity with scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) for database management tasks.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with experience working in a collaborative environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • AWS Cloud experience

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years’ related work experience, Master+12 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain database management systems (DBMS) such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or others.
  • Manage and administer databases hosted on AWS services such as Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, or Amazon Redshift.
  • Configure and optimize AWS database services for performance, cost-effectiveness, and scalability.
  • Utilize AWS tools for monitoring and managing database health and performance.
  • Provide technical support for database-related issues, working closely with application developers and IT teams.
  • Create and maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and best practices.
  • Prepare and present reports on database performance, security incidents, and other relevant metrics.
  • Monitor and tune database performance to ensure high availability and efficiency.
  • Perform routine database maintenance tasks, including backups, restores, and patching.
  • Develop and manage backup and recovery strategies to protect data from loss or corruption.
  • Test and validate backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Participating in Scrum meetings and product sprints as a leader and champion of the SAFe process
