JOB ADVERT SUMMARY

Eduvos is looking to employ the services of a Dean: Curricula and Research on a permanent basis, to be based at any of our National Eduvos campuses.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

  • Relevant Doctorate degree

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least five years’ experience as a senior academic leader in a higher education academic institution
  • Proven capacity to provide dynamic and strategic academic leadership in the areas of responsibility, including strategic planning and implementing abilities, human resource management, the management of change, risk, budgets and operational plans
  • Proven ability to develop and sustain strategically relevant academic institutional partnerships and alliances at national as well as international level
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully direct, coordinate and strategically integrate multiple academic projects at an institutional level
  • Experience in public relations and media communication

Responsibilities:

PRUPOSE OF THE ROLE:

  • To manage curriculum development and delivery, as well as research at Eduvos, while also overseeing internationalisation and community engagement initiatives. This includes ensuring academic excellence (success and quality) and promoting best practices in academia.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As the Dean: Curricula and Research, you will be primarily responsible for the following:

A: Accountability areas:

  • Drive the academic research portfolio in Eduvos
  • Academic learning and teaching (development and delivery)
  • Curriculum development
  • Curriculum delivery
  • Design and Future Learning
  • Internationalisation
  • Establish and foster internal and international partnerships within Academia, to benefit staff and students
  • Community engagement
  • Financial

B: Operational:

  • Promote Eduvos, as an ambassador and spokesperson for the institution on matters pertaining to academia, trends, education and thought leadership topics of interest

C: Leadership:

  • Contribute to Academic vision, strategy and direction:
  • Provide intellectual and strategic leadership to Head of Academics and Academic Management Committee, aligned to business strategies, global HE environment, trends, best-practice and within the context of Higher Education in Africa.
  • As part of the executive management team, support executive Director and colleagues to achieve and maintain vision, mission, values and goals
  • Contribution to Eduvos Academic strategy and Academic Management team effectiveness
  • Talent aquisition, selection, onboarding and succession
  • Promote the professionalism of teaching, the scholarly teaching role, and the reward for good teaching through individual performance management - role clarity and objectives; reviews; feedback; corrective actions
  • Skills level (training, development and coaching)
  • Culture and climate change
  • Create a welcoming culture for all students and employees
  • Promote the development of a welcoming and supportive living and learning environment for students
  • Promote an environment which promotes and encourages student wellness and safety

D: Management:

  • Compile the Departmental budget and manage it continuously – expense and capex
  • Departmental planning and implementation: Departmental strategy implementation through business and operational plans, goals and schedules
  • Strategy implementation: Monitoring, control, education quality assurance and corrective action
  • Reporting
  • Compiling of reports / presentations
  • Understanding (analysing) and interpreting and acting / responding
  • Workflow / alignment / silos / communication
  • Escalations / Decisions / Problem solving
  • Resourcing and capacity management of the Department (people; infrastructure; systems; technology; equipment; knowledge – content, process, design; information; facilities / physical environment trends)
  • Use of technology in an innovative way to increase the effectiveness of academic operations
  • Ensure the maintenance and development of staff complement to enhance Eduvos’s learning and teaching
  • Operational efficiency and innovation – processes, systems, policies, governance / standards and measurement / compliance / methodologies / controls
  • Departmental structure and roles

E: Stakeholder enagement and communications:

  • Internal and external stakeholder engagement and management / collaboration
  • Establish and foster internal and international partnerships within Academia, to benefit staff and students

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ROLE:
