Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Aquatics Director and in accordance with the mission and purpose of the YMCA, the Deck Supervisor shall be responsible for providing assistance with the day-to-day operations of the Aquatics Department. The Deck Supervisor will assist lifeguards, swim instructors, patrons and children at peak times in the Natatorium.

Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have all qualifications and certifications of a lifeguard
- Current Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, O2 and First Aid certifications is required.
- Swim instructor certification is strongly preferred but must be willing to get obtain it as soon as a class is offered by the YMCA.
- One to three years’ related experience required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum age requirements apply; minimum age of 18.
- Must successfully pass background check prior to employment and complete YMCA Child Abuse Safety training within seven (7) days of hire.
- Requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Ability to communicate and listen effectively as well as a willingness to learn, second language is a plus.

Responsibilities:
- Act as a primary responder in case of injury, accident, or illness in pool area and provide backup to lifeguards as needed in emergencies and crowd control.
- Enforce aquatic rules, policies and ratios
- Assist in swim lessons programming ensuring all staff have the tools needed to offer a quality program. This includes registration reminders, lesson plans and progress reports
- Coordinate substitutes for lifeguards and swim instructors if need during Deck Supervisor shift
- Assist in supervision of lifeguards and swim instructors
- Lead instructional swim lessons following YMCA protocol
- Assist in pool maintenance, chemical checks and temperature control
- Provide progress reports or completion certificates for all class participants
