Decommissioning & Environmental Remediation (D&ER) Innovations the Decommissioning Technologist’s position is to focus on supporting the strategic implementation of innovation integration across CRL, G-1, DP and NPD sites. Their role is to support Digital Visualization’s current capabilities and future development by researching, evaluating, and development of new and emerging technologies to support FD&ER with Digital Tools.
The D&ER Innovations Decommissioning Technologist will be part of the D&ER Program Integration Group and is accountable to the D&ER Innovations Project Leader for direct involvement to learn of the challenges and provide intelligent workable solutions.
Some of the key focus areas are: Digital Twin creation and Decommissioning Simulation; Laser scanning and maintaining reality capture technology; Integrating Remotely Operated Equipment (ROE’s); Expanding Virtual and Augmented Reality.

What will you be doing!

  • Supporting design, walk-downs, construction, commissioning, decommissioning, and demolition as required.
  • Supporting and developing the ERM Digital Twin and visualization initiative.
  • Researching state-of-the-art equipment and technologies to support decommissioning activities.
  • Evaluating new and existing technologies and providing advice to meet project objectives.
  • Preparing justification documents for the purchase of capital equipment.
  • Planning, organizing, and carrying out laser scanning work in the field per established best practices.
  • Extracting, and analyzing point cloud data using established procedures involving the use of learned scientific knowledge.
  • Managing the inventory of assets.
  • Ability to operate complex or unique field equipment (3D Lidar Scanner, 360 cameras, and VR/AR headsets).
  • Monitoring and evaluating the performance of specialty equipment and processes to support decommissioning, prepare quality records of observations/analysis, and recommend upgrades/improvements as the technical expert.
  • Providing input for the development of the annual and strategic plans/budgets for the procurement of capital and non-capital equipment.
  • Contributing to data and digital visualization on the established SharePoint-based point cloud asset management platform.
  • Working within a team environment to safely achieve business commitments.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
  • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology, or equivalent formal education, in a field relevant to the position and normally has two to three (2-3) years of pertinent technological experience. OR
  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent and normally has five to eight (5-8) years of pertinent and progressive experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.
  • Experience
  • Nuclear Facilities and building system knowledge is considered an asset.
  • 3D Point Cloud scanning and processing is required.
  • Experience creating Virtual Tours is considered an asset.
  • Experience with media production for visual representation and stakeholder engagement is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in the field to undertake independent highly specialized technical work of a complex and unique nature.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with the MS Office suite.
  • Knowledge of MS SharePoint, PowerBI, and Power Automate is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD modeling and design software such as Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Inventor is required.
  • Advanced knowledge and application of radiation protection principles, measurements, and contamination control. A minimum of Group 3 certification is required

  • A good knowledge of CNL’s policies, procedures, practices, and organization, including project management, engineering, quality assurance, procurement, waste management, etc.
  • To be responsible for the safe and proper operation and use of equipment.
  • Capable of interpreting complex drawings and specifications in either paper or electronic format.
  • Knowledgeable of CNL’s compliance program requirements and experience in preparing/providing supporting documentation to demonstrate compliance.
  • Ability to work effectively independently or in a team to meet scheduled deadlines.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
