JOB SUMMARY

Crypto Services for Defence (CSD), within Defence Digital, is a dynamic, fast paced, Cyber focused environment, vastly advancing and developing to meet emerging technologies to provide security of MOD data.
This role is responsible for the ordering, distribution, account management and in-service provision of the numerous Cryptographic services across Defence and other Government departments.
You’ll provide both assurance and guidance for our holder accounts, maintaining delivery of complex products and for the whole-life security management for our Cryptographic material.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Strategic Command is going through a significant transformation programme which aims to improve the way the Command conducts its business and delivers for Defence and the nation. As a consequence of this, all posts within Strategic Command Headquarters and in time the wider organisation, are/will be subject to review and potential changes as we continuously improve across the period of the transformation programme. These changes may be minor or could be more substantive and will generate new opportunities. Throughout, the Command’s transformation programme is committed to following the MOD’s framework on managing and supporting people through the change process and places an emphasis on early and open consultation and engagement with the Command’s personnel and Trade Unions.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities will include:

  • Working as part of a team, delivering and managing MOD Cryptographic material and services, including accounting, ordering, distribution and communicating internally and externally with customers and stakeholders.
  • Ensuring all cryptographic material is authorised for issue and work with wider teams to effect timely delivery.
  • Raising external paperwork for, and assisting with, internal audits and checks of holdings, maintaining accurate recording of Cryptographic material, ensuring compliance.
  • Recognising breaches of Crypto and Communication Security Policy and reporting accordingly. Contribute to the development of Cyber security strategies, policies, guidance and awareness.
  • Be able to provide security advice concerning cryptographic material.
  • As a member of the CSD London Management team you will provide an effective interface with the manager of CSD London and deputise as and when necessary.
  • Ensure all Electronic Key (EKey) processes, procedures and local working instructions are updated and stored at the appropriate classification.
  • As a line manager, you will be required to assist with the setting of objectives and produce reports, hold regular staff briefings to communicate core, departmental and local information.
  • Assist with the roles of Controlling Authority and Cryptonet Controller, including undertaking any mandatory training courses necessary.
  • In this role, there will be a requirement to undertake manual handling tasks.

The successful applicant will be posted into one of the defined Government Professions on Standard Terms of Reference for the grade. Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.

To be successful in this role you’ll need to demonstrate the following:

  • You are a strong team player who can build effective working relationships.
  • You have excellent written and communication skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • You have experience or knowledge of adhering to strict security protocols.
  • Experienced in using Office 365 applications.
  • You have experience of working within a fast-paced, complex working environment that requires you to prioritise tasks and respond promptly to change, devising solutions to problems
