We have an exciting opportunity for a Degree Apprentice Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team. This is a great opportunity if you are interested in the commercial side of the Construction industry to develop knowledge, skills and experience whilst studying a relevant degree and receiving guidance from a qualified surveyor.
The projects Southeast team delivery civil engineering projects for clients such as Hampshire County Council, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council and Connect Plus (M25).

Skills and Experience

  • Working towards a Degree / HND qualification in Quantity Surveying or other relevant subject.
  • Interest in becoming registered with the RICS / CICES and working towards professional chartership.
  • Relevant CSCS card (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Basic understanding of commercial aspects within the construction industry.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop skills in Highways and Civil Engineering projects.
  • Basic knowledge of NEC3/4 suite of contracts (desirable but not essential).
  • Good command and communication of oral and written English.
  • Willingness to develop negotiation and communication skills.
  • Good people and organisational skills.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office (i.e., Excel) and other computer skills

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Quantity Surveyors and Managing Quantity Surveyor to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Working within a team of talented professionals ensuring co-ordination and provision across all aspects of project delivery.
  • Supporting with pre-contract setup, including forecasting, measurement, sub-contract tendering and procurement (including drafting to negotiating various forms of subcontract).
  • Assisting with the management of commercial aspects of the project, including valuations / applications, budget monitoring, material / plant reconciliation and contract variations / compensation events and change.
  • Helping to prepare, manage and negotiate the agreement of Final Accounts.
  • Supporting the procurement and management of subcontract packages, as well as assisting other members of the commercial team in the management of subcontract packages.
  • Assisting in producing and maintaining project forecasts to support the monthly commercial and financial reporting procedures.
  • Learning to assess, review and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
  • Helping to maximise cashflow through the control and valuation of works, invoicing and payment process.
  • Supporting the project commercial team to ensure delivery of above items and develop their knowledge.
  • Providing support for site staff on commercial issues.
  • Ensuring compliance with all legal requirements, including contractual and legislative.
  • Ensuring compliance with Milestone standards and procedures in respect of commercial activities.
  • Assisting with control of project documentation.
  • Performing ad hoc duties as job requires.

    Training and Qualifications
    The successful candidate will enrol onto the Level 6 Chartered Surveyor (Quantity Surveyor Pathway) Degree Apprenticeship, with one of our partners University. Over 5 years, you will work towards a BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying, as well as chartership with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
