Description:

DESCRIPTION

The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) Program Coordinator actively promotes an inclusive and equitable work environment by acting as a resource for City management and staff in the areas of equity, diversity and inclusion.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide support and outreach to city departments and affinity groups to promote or support cultural programming and/or inclusion in the City of Tempe.
  • Provide program support to the Human Relations Commission, Mayor’s Committee on Disability Concerns; Tardeada Advisory Board, and departmental committees, as directed.
  • Assist with the development and coordination of special events, workshops, and related printed materials, as requested by management and elected officials to promote the City of Tempe;
  • Collaboratively plan and coordinate implementation of cultural and intellectual diversity events and programs, educational displays, workshops, and social programs with City and community stakeholders.
  • Coordinate media strategies related to communicating the activities, value, and diversity of cultural offerings in the community, including but not limited to promotions, marketing and publications, social media, website marketing, newsletters, e-blasts, etc.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Requires three (3) years of experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion related to public events and programming or a directly related field.
Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.

EDUCATION:

Requires bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, organizational/workforce development, or degree related to the core functions of this position.
The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college education (30 credit hours).
