Birkbeck, University of London, is looking for a Demonstrator to support the module ‘Statistics for Psychologists’ this coming Autumn term.
This is an excellent opportunity to support the teaching team on the MSc Psychology conversion programme.
You will assist in the delivery of predetermined programmes of teaching to Birkbeck Psychological Science students, under academic supervision, to facilitate the successful completion of their studies. You should engage in the scholarship necessary to ensure good practice in teaching and to apply appropriate levels of knowledge in the subject areas to be taught.
We are currently looking for a Demonstrator to support the following module:
- Statistics for Psychologists (Level 7: Friday 6-9m) from 4 October 2024 to 13 December 2024 (excluding Friday 8 due to reading week). Duties include assisting students as they work through pre-prepared pen and paper / computer based introductory research methods exercises including tasks about descriptive statistics, simple inferential statistical tests (t-test, chi-square, one-way and two-way ANOVA, linear regression, correlation), parts of a lab report, writing a pre-registration. Lab report marking is required for this role and marking training can be provided.
When undertaking this role, the post holder will be employed as part of their general academic development to obtain practical teaching experience and will be undertaking this work independently but in parallel with postgraduate studies.
In addition to the criteria specified in the job pack below, candidates must have:
- A first degree in Psychology or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- Advanced experience in using a range of statistical techniques and report writing suitable for quantitative psychological science research.
- Awareness of the needs of part-time adult learners and ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students and inspire them to learn.
