About the role
The business unit:
RFDS Victoria’s Primary Health Care team works in partnership with community health organisations across Victoria to deliver impactful services and improve the health and wellbeing of our rural communities. We believe in creating opportunities so that all Victorians have the choice to access the essential health care services they deserve.
The position:
The Dental Lead will take a management approach to program establishment, service planning, health practitioner liaison, stakeholder relationship management and budget management to ensure effective and timely delivery of the RFDS Mobile Dental Service, fixed Clinic site service at Omeo and Smile squad. They will be responsible for the management of staffing and the delivery of the dental service operations daily.
The Dental Lead has seven major accountabilities:

Clinical Governance –

  • Ensuring dental systems support certification to NSQPCH standards and ISO 9001
  • Overseeing service protocols to ensure alignment with best practice
  • Developing, conducting, reporting and actioning the Dental Clinic Audit program
  • Credentialing, Scope of Practice and supervision of staff

Service needs –

  • Preparing annual needs assessments as required for funding agreements
  • Developing and sustaining relationships with DHSV and other public oral health agencies

Service Design and Sustainability –

  • Overseeing Consumer Led Service design and integrate place-based solutions to improve dental service delivery and sustainability
  • Supporting sustainability through efficient billing practices that maximise revenue while working within contractual regulatory requirements

Work models and Workforce development –

  • Providing a strategic approach to Clinical match for clinical lead in Dental program
  • Onboarding, overseeing and co-ordinating clinical staff

Service Monitoring –

  • Managing waitlists and map demands for Dental
  • Overseeing clinical outcomes and Clinical variations

Stakeholder Engagement –

  • Overseeing consumer experience and engaging regional communities in health literacy
  • Initiating and building Clinical Support networks

Research –

  • Participating in publications and Conferences deemed relevant
  • Bringing an academic voice to the models of Dental Care at RFDS

Knowledge, skills and qualities required:

  • Experience in Dental environment strongly preferred
  • Oversight of clinical team – at least 2 years experience
  • Demonstrable knowledge of working in an accredited health service environment
  • Understanding of dental claiming/billing
  • Leading clinical risk management in a dental setting
  • Strong skills in staff supervision and development

Mandatory requirements:
In line with RFDS Victoria’s mandatory policies, all employees are required to undergo a National Police Clearance, hold a Working with Children Check and have 3 * Covid vaccinations and annual influenza vaccination. This position will subject to further vaccination requirements and licences.
