Description:

Job Purpose Dental HealthCare Cambridgeshire aims to deliver high quality dental care in a patient centred environment and dental public health work within the community. We are currently seeking dentists to provide emergency/urgent care from our Huntingdon/Wisbech Dental Access Centres to vulnerable groups and to patients (both children and adults) who are unable to access routine care with a General Dental Practitioner. Our service is inclusive and accessible to everyone who requires emergency/urgent care.The aim of the service is to provide provision of care to meet patient need, including responding to trauma, swelling, haemorrhage and severe pain. We currently provide emergency/urgent care from several Dental Access clinics across the county of Cambridgeshire.
Dental Healthcare also delivers a number of specialised services to vulnerable patients across the counties of Cambridgeshire and Suffolk on a referral basis. All surgeries are well equipped, modern light and airy and you will be supported by a very experienced clinical team, Lead nurse and a Clinical Lead. A computerised software system (Dentally) is used to collect and manage patient information. The Trust will expect you to complete mandatory training and we have a dedicated training budget to support career development.You will participate in the appraisal process, team meetings, peer review and audit throughout the year.
1:1 supervision will also be supported Undertakes the diagnosis, selection of appropriate restorative technique and delivery of restoration or replacement of teeth in an effective way. Routine exodontias and/or simple surgical exodontias. Undertakes appropriate assessment of patients to determine the need for specialist advice, onward referral. Undertakes appropriate investigations during the patient examination to determine the need for specialist advice.
To show empathy when dealing with patients, carers and families. To be aware of the responsibilities of all employees to maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors and staff. Be responsible for safe working practice on a day-to-day basis, ensuring that all clinical activity complies with clinical governance and legislation. To complete clinical notes in accordance with the Trusts policy.
To report any incidents/near misses on the Trusts reporting system (Datix) Undertakes any reasonable duties that the Clinical Lead/Service Lead requests. Participates in team meetings, peer review and clinical audit. To actively seek to improve patient experiences and outcomes. To offer suggestions to Improve the quality and development of services.
To be able to travel within the district and hold a valid driving licence. To ensure that continuing professional development training needs are met in consultation with the Clinical lead/Service Lead. To be a good team member who listens to and supports colleagues at all levels. I will understand my own prejudices and biases and will challenge any inappropriate behaviour witnessed in the workplace (or raise it with someone else) I will role model Trust values and behaviours.
Communication Communicates with a range of patients, carers and parents, on complex clinical issues and arrange any interpreters required to support patient needs. Communicates with the clinical team and peers in an appropriate manner. Communicates with other health and social care professionals involved in the care of patients. Contribute to CCS internal communication strategies ensuring effective two-way communication and engagement within the organisation.
Contribute to CCS external communication strategies working with the Head of Communications to raise awareness and promote the reputation of CCS services Patient and Public Engagement To contribute to ensuring that CCS responsibilities to engage and consult with patients and the public are met in line with statutory requirements. People Management Maintaining own professional development and requirement to take part in appraisal and job planning if appropriate. Clinical and Practice Governance Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any patient/family/staff/records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act. Any data that is taken/shared as part of a phone call or transported, faxed or transferred electronically must be undertaken with regard to CCS Information Governance and Information Security policies.
The post holder must adhere to CCS risk assessment and risk management processes. The post holder must adhere to infection control policies and procedures. It is a condition of your employment that you are currently registered with the GDC and it is your responsibility to maintain your professional registration. Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by Cambridgeshire Community Services, (CCS).
The post holder must participate in clinical and safeguarding audits as required. Provide patients and their families /carers with information on standards they should expect from the service and ensure the service has mechanisms to capture the patient experience. The post holder is required to participate in relevant emergency preparedness process for their team. The post holder is required to highlight any safeguarding concerns with the survey setting and with CCS Safeguarding Team.
The post holder, along with the dental nurse, will be responsible for all equipment maintenance and moving and handling when visiting survey settings. General Safeguarding people responsibilitySafeguarding children and adults at risk of abuse or neglect is a collective responsibility. There is an expectation that all staff develop and maintain their role relevant safeguarding people competencies and comply with local safeguarding partnerships practice. Alongside this employee who are registrants are reminded of their professional duty of care.
