Description:
NCIC DIABETIC FOOT DEPARTMENT SUPPORT VOLUNTEER:
What is the purpose of the role?
The volunteer will be located in the diabetic foot clinic at the Cumberland Infirmary where they will welcome outpatients and visitors, help people navigate their way around the department/hospital and reassure and support people who are attending clinics and appointments or are visiting friends or family.
Arriving at a busy hospital for an appointment or visit can be a stressful experience for anyone. For older people, the experience can be particularly overwhelming.
This is a voluntary role.
What tasks can this role include?
Provide practical help, offering advice and directions.
Escort patients and visitors to wards or departments.
Physically pushing wheelchair bound patients from different outpatient locations. E.g., helping wheelchair bound patients or taking ambulatory patients from one department to another, this will involve walking for up to 10min going between floors (you will be required to undertake some training on the safe use of wheelchairs by our “Moving & Handling” team prior to commencement).
Seeking out people who are looking lost or in need of assistance and helping them.
Offering companionship, comfort and support to patients.
Locating wheel chairs if required.
You will not be asked to lift patients at anytime
Responsibilities:
You have the ability to communication with all groups of people.
Physically able to push a patient in a wheelchair, maximum distance would be no more than 10minutes going between floors.
Friendly, approachable personality.
Helpful and accommodating manner.
