Pend Oreille Country is located in Northeastern Washington, on the border of Northern Idaho and Canada, with Newport, Washington being the County seat. JOB SUMMARY:

This position supports the daily operations of the Superior Court under the direction of the County Clerk or Chief Deputy Clerk. Key responsibilities include document scanning, data entry, managing monetary transactions, processing court-related documents (e.g., domestic violence, anti-harassment, passports), and handling jury processing. The role also involves drafting court minutes, preparing calendars, and marking exhibits.
The ideal candidate should have strong communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. A high school diploma (or equivalent), the ability to type 45 wpm, and experience with court-related systems (JIS and SCOMIS) are preferred. A valid driver’s license, passing background checks, and the ability to handle money are required.
The work environment is office-based with some physical demands such as occasional lifting. Telecommuting is not allowed, and regular attendance is crucial.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certifications in office administration, legal studies, or related fields is a plus.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Bilingual abilities may be advantageous depending on the demographic of the region.
  • Technical Proficiency:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel), with experience in data entry and office management systems.
  • Experience with JIS (Judicial Information System) and SCOMIS (Superior Court Management Information System) is preferred but not required. Willingness to train on these systems is essential.
  • Typing Speed: Must be able to type at least 45 words per minute with accuracy.
  • Confidentiality & Security: Must be capable of handling sensitive information with strict confidentiality, ensuring data privacy and legal compliance.
  • Interpersonal & Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to maintain professionalism and neutrality in dealing with the public, court participants, and other employees.
  • Public Relations & Customer Service: Demonstrated ability to interact with the public in stressful or high-pressure situations while remaining calm and professional.
  • Organizational & Time Management Skills: Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently. Must be able to manage multiple responsibilities without direct supervision.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: Capable of identifying issues and addressing them with minimal guidance.
  • Physical Abilities: Must be able to perform job duties that include standing, sitting, kneeling, lifting books or files up to 50 pounds, and climbing ladders as needed.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, provide backup support for other clerks, and assist as needed with various office tasks.
  • Legal Knowledge: Basic understanding of court procedures, terminology, and legal documentation is preferred, though not required. Training may be provided.
  • Accuracy: Keen attention to detail, particularly in data entry, financial handling, and documentation to avoid errors.
  • Dependability & Flexibility: Reliable and able to maintain regular attendance with a flexible attitude toward handling miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  • Bondability: Must be bondable to handle financial transactions securely, with strong integrity and ethical standards.

LICENSES AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Driver’s License: Required for work-related duties.
  • Background Check: Must successfully pass a background check, driving record check, and credit check.
  • Bondable: Required for handling money.
